However, some sources instead put this date at 1535 when the word "Canada" was first used to refer to the French colony of Canada, which was founded in the name of King Francis I. Peter Liba
Peter Michael Liba (May 10, 1940 – June 21, 2007) was a Canadian journalist, businessman and 22nd Lieutenant Governor of Manitoba. Biography Liba was born in Winnipeg, and began his journalistic career working for the ''Portage la Prairie Daily Telegraph'' and the ''Neepawa Press''. He joined the ''Winnipeg Tribune'' in 1960, and became its city editor in 1967. An executive assistant to the leadership of the Manitoba Liberal Party between 1968 and 1973, working under Gildas Molgat, Robert Bend and Israel Asper, in 1974 he joined Asper's CanWest group of companies, eventually becoming president and CEO of CKND-TV in Manitoba and SaskWest TV in Saskatchewan. He served on the Board of Directors of Atomic Energy of Canada from 1981 to 1986 with Marc Lalonde. Lise Thibault
Lise Thibault DStJ (; born 2 April 1939) is a Canadian politician who served as the 27th Lieutenant Governor of Quebec from 1997 to 2007. She later spent six months in jail for misuse of public funds, which she was ordered to repay the government. As of she is the only Canadian vice-regal representative to have been incarcerated. Early life Born in Saint-Roch-de-l'Achigan, Quebec, she was the eldest daughter of Paul Trudel and Laurenza Wolfe. She was educated at the Académie Marie-Anne de Montréal, and then went on to teachers' college at Cégep de Saint-Jérôme. She married René Thibault in 1959. Thibault was permanently disabled in a tobogganing accident as a teenager, and uses a wheelchair. Career Thibault taught with the adult education department of the Milles-Îles and Des Écores school boards from 1973 to 1978. She worked for Télé-Métropole from 1977 to 1981. Joseph Gérard Léonce Bernard, (May 23, 1943 in Abram Village, Prince Edward Island – March 25, 2013 in Prince Edward Island) was an Acadian-Canadian politician, who was the 26th Lieutenant Governor of Prince Edward Island, the third Island Acadian to hold this position. Born in Abram Village, Prince Edward Island, he received his early education at Evangeline School in Abram Village, becoming a member of the first class to graduate from the school after the completion of its construction, in 1962. James Bartleman
James Karl Bartleman (born 24 December 1939) is a former Canadian diplomat and author who served as the 27th Lieutenant Governor of Ontario from 2002 to 2007. Bartleman grew up in the Muskoka town of Port Carling, and he is a member of the Chippewas of Mnjikaning First Nation. In 1963, he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree (BA) in History from the University of Western Ontario, where he was initiated as a member of Phi Delta Theta. Edward Moxon Roberts (September 1, 1940 – January 14, 2022) was a Canadian lawyer and politician.
