This is a list of British television related events from 2002. Events January *1 January **Provisional viewing figures released by the Broadcasters' Audience Research Board indicate that on average, BBC One had more viewers than ITV through 2001. Independent Television Commission
The Independent Television Commission (ITC) licensed and regulated commercial television services in the United Kingdom (except S4C in Wales) between 1 January 1991 and 28 December 2003. History The creation of ITC, by the Broadcasting Act 1990 to replace the television regulation functions of the Independent Broadcasting Authority (formed by the Sound Broadcasting Act 1972) and Cable Authority. From 1 January 1991 it regulated the existing ITV network. The 1990 Act also established the Channel Four Television Corporation to run Channel 4, regulated by the ITC. There was no fanfare, as control was passed from Channel Four Television Company Limited. Activities The establishing Act required the auction of Channel 3 licences for the fifteen ITV regions and nationwide breakfast time. ITV2
ITV2 is a Television in the United Kingdom, British free-to-air television channel owned by ITV Digital Channels, a division of ITV plc. It was launched on 7 December 1998. For a number of years, it had the largest audience share after the five Analogue terrestrial television in the United Kingdom, analogue terrestrial stations, a claim now held by its sister service ITV3 both of which are freely available to a majority of households. UTV2
UTV2 was a television channel, owned by Ulster Television plc (now Wireless Group). The channel was on digital terrestrial television and NTL cable in Northern Ireland. History The channel launched on 28 June 1999 as ''TV You''. The schedule mostly consisted of a simulcast with ITV2 as broadcast in England, Wales and the Scottish Borders. The channel also broadcast various archived programmes from UTV. In contrast to ITV2, TV You did not carry any advertising due to its low viewership. The channel was rebranded as UTV2 in 2000. UTV2 closed on 22 January 2002 following a deal with ITV Digital and was replaced by ITV2. Bloody Sunday Inquiry
The Bloody Sunday Inquiry, also known as the Saville Inquiry or the Saville Report after its chairman, Lord Saville of Newdigate, was established in 1998 by British Prime Minister Tony Blair after campaigns for a second inquiry by families of those killed and injured in Derry on Bloody Sunday during the peak of The Troubles. It was published on 15 June 2010. The inquiry was set up to establish a definitive version of the events of Sunday 30 January 1972, superseding the tribunal set up under Lord Widgery that had reported on 19 April 1972, 11 weeks after the events, and to resolve the accusations of a whitewash that had surrounded it. The inquiry took the form of a tribunal established under the Tribunals of Inquiry (Evidence) Act 1921, and consisted of Lord Saville, William L. Hoyt, the former Chief Justice of New Brunswick and John L. Toohey, a former Justice of the High Court of Australia. ''Sunday'' is a television drama, produced by Sunday Productions for Channel 4 and screened on 25 January 2002. It dramatises the events of Bloody Sunday in Derry, Northern Ireland, through the eyes of the families of the dead and injured, specifically those of Leo Young, older brother of John Young, who was killed on the day. The timescale covers events in the years prior to Bloody Sunday, and subsequent events up to and including the Widgery Tribunal. It was written by Jimmy McGovern and directed by Charles McDougall Charles McDougall is a British Emmy Award and BAFTA-winning director. Bloody Sunday (film)
''Bloody Sunday'' is a 2002 film written and directed by Paul Greengrass based around the 1972 " Bloody Sunday" shootings in Derry, Northern Ireland. Although produced by Granada Television as a TV film, it premiered at the Sundance Film Festival on 16 January, a few days before its screening on ITV on 20 January, and then in selected London cinemas from 25 January. ''Bloody Sunday'' is an international co-production of the United Kingdom and Ireland. Though set in Derry, the film was mostly shot in Ballymun in North Dublin. Some location scenes were shot in Derry, in Guildhall Square and in Creggan on the actual route of the in 1972. Content The film was inspired by Don Mullan's politically influential book ''Eyewitness Bloody Sunday'' (Wolfhound Press, 1997). Roy Hudd
Roy Hudd (16 May 1936 – 15 March 2020) was an English comedian, actor, presenter, radio host, author and authority on the history of music hall entertainment. Early life Hudd was born in Croydon on 16 May 1936 to Evalina "Evie" (née Barham) and Harry Hudd. His father was a carpenter who left the family shortly after the Second World War, and his mother, who had a history of mental health problems, committed suicide by gas when Hudd was nine years old. Hudd was primarily brought up by his grandmother, and attended Tavistock Secondary Modern School in Croydon and Croydon Secondary Technical School. After completing his national service in the Royal Air Force, he studied commercial art at the Regent Street Polytechnic. He then worked as a messenger for an advertising agency, as a window dresser, and as a commercial artist, working under Harry Beck. Angie Watts is a fictional character from the BBC soap opera ''EastEnders'', played by Anita Dobson from the first episode of the series in 1985 until 1988, when Dobson decided to leave, and the character was written out.
