2000 Vuelta A España
The 55th edition of the ''Vuelta a España'' (Tour of Spain), a long-distance bicycle stage race and one of the three grand tours, was held from 26 August to 17 September 2000. It consisted of 21 stages covering a total of , and was won by Roberto Heras of the cycling team. The defending champion, Jan Ullrich, withdrew after the 12th stage while sitting in fourth place to prepare for the Olympic Road Race. Roberto Heras
Roberto Heras Hernández (born 1 February 1974) is a Spanish former professional road bicycle racer who won the Vuelta a España a record four times. Between 1997 Vuelta a España, 1997 and 2005 Vuelta a España, 2005 he finished in the top 5 of the Vuelta every year except 1998 Vuelta a España, 1998 when he finished 6th. He won a record-tying three times, and then broke the record with a fourth win in 2005, but he was eventually disqualified after being accused of taking erythropoietin, EPO. Heras chose to fight the accusations and this resulted in a lengthy court case and appeal process. In June 2011, Heras successfully appealed the disqualification in the civil court of Castilla y León, and this decision was upheld in the Spanish supreme court in December 2012. Individual Time Trial
An individual time trial (ITT) is a road bicycle race in which cyclists race alone against the clock (in French: ''contre la montre'' – literally "against the watch", in Italian: ''tappa a cronometro'' "stopwatch stage"). There are also track-based time trials where riders compete in velodromes, and team time trials (TTT). ITTs are also referred to as "the race of truth", as winning depends only on each rider's strength and endurance, and not on help provided by teammates and others riding ahead and creating a slipstream. Individual time trials are usually held on flat or rolling terrain, although sometimes they are held up a mountain road (in Italian: ''cronoscalata'' "chrono climbing"). Morella, Castellón
Morella () is an ancient walled city located on a hill-top in the province of Castellón, Valencian Community, Spain. The town is the capital and administrative centre of the '' comarca'' of Els Ports, in the historic Maestrat (Maestrazgo) region. There are traces of settlement by the Iberians, succeeded by the Greeks and Romans, Visigoths and the Moors. Eladio Jiménez Sánchez (born 10 March 1976 in Ciudad Rodrigo, Province of Salamanca) is a retired Spanish professional road bicycle racer. On 7 December 2009 the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) announced that Jiménez had tested positive for erythropoietin (EPO) after winning stage 6 of the 2009 Volta a Portugal. Xorret De Catí
Xorret de Catí is a rural mountainous area in the Valencian Community, Spain. As a part of Prebaetic System, it is located in the province of Alicante, between Castalla and Petrer, at an altitude of about 1,100 metres. Xorret de Catí is open throughout the year. ''Xorret'' means "little stream" in Valencian, taking its name from a small spring in the area. Jans Koerts (born 24 August 1969) is a Dutch former professional road bicycle racer. He was professional from 1992 until 2007. He notably won Stage 3 of the 2000 Vuelta a España. Career Koerts started his career at in 1991 as a stagiare. At the 2000 Vuelta a España Koerts won the Stage 3 mass sprint. In 2005 during stage four of the Trofeo Joaquim Agostinho Koerts crashed heavily breaking both ankles, his ribs and fractured his femur. He did not race again until Ster van Zwolle in march 2007. Due tohis crash he did not continue with , instead he had to find a lower team to race on. Doping In 2007 Koerts admitted to doping over a span of eleven years.
