Events January *4 January – Irish television debut of US animated series ''Chip 'n Dale: Rescue Rangers (TV series), Chip 'n Dale: Rescue Rangers'' on RTÉ Two, Network 2. *8 January – Bob Collins is appointed Director-General of RTÉ. *13 January – RTÉ 1 screens a 26-minute drama short called ''Summertime (TV), Summertime'' starring Michael Townsend, Jason O'Mara, Natalie Stringer and Les Martin. February *No events March *30 March – Five (channel), Channel 5, the UK's fifth and last terrestrial television, terrestrial channel, launches at 6.00pm. Carrie Crowley
Caroline Anne Crowley (born 23 May 1964) is an Irish actress and former radio and television presenter. She had her own chat show, ''Limelight'', and co-presented the Eurovision Song Contest 1997 with Ronan Keating. Her acting credits include '' The Clinic'', ''School Run'', '' An Crisis'', and '' Fair City''. She appeared as Elisef in the first two seasons of the TV series ''Vikings''. She was nominated for a Best Supporting Actress IFTA award for her performance in the 2022 film '' An Cailín Ciúin (The Quiet Girl)''. Early life Crowley was born and raised in Waterford in the southeast of Ireland. It launched on 1 September 1993, as a localised version of the American channel of the same name in the United Kingdom and launched in Ireland in 2004. TG4 (; , ) is an Irish free-to-air public service television channel. It launched on 31 October 1996 and is available online and through its on-demand service TG4 Player in Ireland and beyond. TG4 was initially known as (TnaG), before being renamed in 1999. TG4 was the third national station to be launched in Ireland, after RTÉ One in 1961 (as ) and RTÉ Two in 1978. Marc Tolon Brown (born November 25, 1946) is an American author and illustrator of children's books. Brown writes as well as illustrates the ''Arthur'' book series and is best known for creating that series and its numerous spin-offs. Early life and education While growing up in Erie, Pennsylvania, with his three sisters, Brown was told many stories by his grandmother Thora. This inspired Brown to write stories of his own in the later years of his life. An example of this was the "borrowing" of his 7th grade algebra teacher's name Mr. Rathbun for the character Mr. Ratburn. It was Grandma Thora who also fueled Brown's affinity for drawing, which was discovered at the age of six. While attending McDowell Senior High School, his art teacher, Nancy Bryan, introduced him to watercolors, which he now uses for the majority of his illustrations. ''Arthur'' is an animated television series developed by Marc Brown (author), Marc Brown and Kathy Waugh and produced by WGBH-TV, WGBH Boston for PBS. Based on Brown's ''Arthur'' book series, it is set in the fictional American city of Elwood City and revolves around the lives of Arthur Read, an anthropomorphic aardvark, his friends and family, and their daily interactions with each other.
