Belgian Television
Television in Belgium was introduced in 1953 and began with one channel each in Dutch and French. The country is heavily cabled, with 93% of households watching television through cable as of 2003. History The three Belgian Communities – Dutch, French and German-speaking – have legal responsibility for audiovisual communication. They constitute separate markets, the common feature of which is the fact that they have been extensively cabled for three decades and are thus able to receive neighbouring countries' channels. From 1930 broadcasting in Belgium was in the hands of National Institute of Radio Broadcasting (Nationaal Institut voor Radio-omroep, NIR; Institut national de radiodiffusion, INR). The organisation had separate services on TV and Radio in Flemish and French. Bobby Hatfield
Robert Lee Hatfield (August 10, 1940 – November 5, 2003) was an American singer. He and Bill Medley were the Righteous Brothers. He sang the tenor part for the duo and sang solo on the group's 1965 recording of "Unchained Melody". Early life Born in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin, Hatfield moved with his family to Anaheim, California, when he was four. He attended Anaheim High School, where he played football and baseball and was co-captain of the basketball team. He was student body president in the 1957–1958 school year, graduating in 1958. Baseball Hatfield was scouted by the Los Angeles Dodgers. He briefly considered signing as a professional ballplayer, but his passion for music led him to pursue a singing career while still attending high school. He attended Fullerton College. Samson En Gert (TV Series)
''Samson & Gert'' is a Dutch-language Belgian children's television series produced by Eline van Noppen, centered on the talking dog Samson and his owner Gert. In its entire run, the show was originally aired on TV1 from Christmas Day 1989 until 1 December 1997, where it moved to Ketnet and continues airing all of its episodes to this day. History Originally Gert Verhulst was a continuity announcer. He wanted to make the announcements before children's television programmes more appealing by having an animal puppet next to him. He got in touch with puppeteer , who created the puppet dog Samson. Samson, a Bearded Collie, made his screen debut in the Christmas period of 1989. The pair's popularity grew rapidly in Flanders and they were given their own television series in 1990. The show, named ''Samson'', premiered on 2 September 1990. ''Tik Tak'' is a Belgian television series. The series aired on BRTN from 1 November 1981 to 1991 and CBeebies in 2020. History The program was conceived by Mil Lenssens when he saw some children fascinated by the broadcast of a lottery draw. The predictable, repetitive mix of colors, movement and musical rhythms he then developed in the program, along with Clien De Vuyst. Concept There were 366 episodes produced (enough for one year, with one extra episode for leap years). Each episode begins with sheep (and the occasional dog) at sunset on a rotating platform, and ends with a shadow figure (Ann Ricour), who has all kinds of adventures in five differently colored books. VRT Canvas
VRT Canvas is a Belgium, Belgian television channel of the Flemish Region, Flemish public broadcasting organisation Vlaamse Radio- en Televisieomroeporganisatie (VRT). Specialising in both original and adaptations from western Europe and North America, the channel offers: in-depth news and current affairs, non-mainstream entertainment, documentaries, arthouse films, other cultural programming, and most recently additional children's programming. History The channel was founded on 1 December 1997 as the successor to the second channel BRTN TV2 and timeshared with the children's channel Ketnet between 7am and 8pm until 30 April 2012.
