Roland Fairbairn McWilliams
Roland Fairbairn McWilliams (October 10, 1874 – December 10, 1957) was a Canadian politician and office-holder. He served as the 13th Lieutenant Governor of Manitoba from 1940 to 1953. Life McWilliams was born in Peterborough, Ontario. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Toronto in 1896, and started his Bachelor of Laws degree at Osgoode Hall the following year. He subsequently worked as a barrister and solicitor. He campaigned for the Ontario Liberal Party in the 1905 provincial election, but was defeated. In 1906, McWilliams was elected Mayor of Peterborough. He moved to Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1910, and continued to practice law for several years. He was also a leading organizer within YMCA, serving as its North American Vice President in 1923 and 1924, and as its Canadian leader from 1922 to 1929. Major-General Sir Marie-Joseph-Eugène Fiset, (March 15, 1874 – June 8, 1951) was a Canadian physician, military officer, Deputy Minister of Militia and Defence, Member of Parliament, the 18th Lieutenant Governor of Quebec, and the 3rd Canadian Surgeon General. Early life Born in Rimouski, Quebec, the son of Jean-Baptiste Romuald Fiset and Aimee Plamondon, Fiset was educated at Rimouski College and received a Bachelor of Arts degree and M.D. from Laval University. Military career He joined the 89th Temiscouata and Rimouski Battalion of Infantry at the age of 16. His military career continued during his studies, he was promoted to the rank of lieutenant while a student. Joseph Alphonsus Bernard
Joseph Alphonse Bernard (March 27, 1881 – September 7, 1962), which later evolved into the anglicized Joseph Alphonsus, was the 16th and first Acadian Lieutenant Governor of Prince Edward Island, serving between 1945 and 1950. Born on March 27, 1881, in Tignish, Prince Edward Island, Bernard was the son of Acadians Theodore Bernard and Anne Perry, who was the daughter of Stanislaus Francis Perry. He received his education in Tignish and in various locations on the island. On September 21, 1909, he married Zoë Chiasson of Tignish and they had seventeen children. He was a merchant and served as President of the Tignish Merchants Association. He was the Chairman of the Tignish Library and also Civilian Recruiting Director. John Alexander Douglas McCurdy , (2 August 1886 – 25 June 1961) was a Canadian aviation pioneer and the 20th Lieutenant Governor of Nova Scotia from 1947 to 1952. Leonard Outerbridge
Sir Leonard Cecil Outerbridge, (May 6, 1888 – September 6, 1986) was the second lieutenant governor of Newfoundland from 1949 to 1957. In 1967, he became a Companion of the Order of Canada. Biography Leonard Outerbridge was born in Asheville, North Carolina, on May 6, 1888, the son of Sir Joseph Outerbridge and Lady Maria Harvey Outerbridge (born Tucker), who were Bermudian residents of the Colony of Newfoundland. He was educated at Bishop Feild College in St. John's, Marlborough College in England, and finished a law degree at the University of Toronto, where he was a Member of Alpha Delta Phi. Outerbridge served in the Canadian forces, during the Great War, reaching the rank of Colonel. After the war he worked as a lawyer in Toronto for a year before returning to St. John's to help his brother, Herbert, manage Harvey and Company Ltd. Albert Walsh
Sir Albert Joseph Walsh (3 April 1900 – 12 December 1958) was Commissioner of Home Affairs and Education and chief justice of the Dominion of Newfoundland, and its first lieutenant governor upon its admission to the Canadian Confederation on 1 April 1949. Early life and education Walsh was born in Holyrood, Newfoundland, and was educated St. Bonaventure's College and Dalhousie University. He was principal of the Roman Catholic Academy in Harbour Grace from 1917 to 1924. Walsh had studied law and was admitted to the bar in both Newfoundland and Nova Scotia. Political career Walsh was a supporter for Sir Richard Squires and was elected MHA for the district of Harbour Main in 1928 and became Speaker of the House of Assembly.
