Arturo Alessandri
Arturo Fortunato Alessandri Palma (; December 20, 1868 – August 24, 1950) was a Chilean political figure and reformer who served thrice as president of Chile, first from 1920 to 1924, then from March to October 1925, and finally from 1932 to 1938. He was a member of the Liberal Party. Early life Arturo Alessandri was the son of Pedro Alessandri Vargas and Susana Palma Guzmán. His grandfather, Pietro Allesandri Tarzi, was an Italian immigrant from Tuscany who had arrived in Chile from Argentina in 1850. Alessandri’s father, Pedro, became head of the family at the age of 19; at the time of Alessandri’s birth, he ran an estate in LongavÃ. Ranquil Massacre
The Ranquil massacre () was a massacre of forestry workers by the Chilean Army in the upper Bio-Bio River in 1934. The upper Bio-Bio region had recently been opened for Chilean and foreign settlers due to the occupation of the Araucania, and huge extensions of former Mapuche land were available. The workers rebelled against the lumber mill administrators, later the Chilean Army was called to restore order. 477 workers, many of them Mapuches, were killed as result. Around 500 prisoners were taken. Origin The origins of the rebellion are manifold. On the one hand, the massive Colonization plan promoted between 1881 and 1914 by the Chilean Government, with the consequent installation of 15,000 foreign settlers (Germans, French, Swiss, Austrians, etc.) resulted in the decrease of the heritage of the peoples Mapuche, who, pressured by the continuous state alienation of land, ended up as impoverished farmers in the Lonquimay sector. Anselmo Sule
Vladimir Anselmo Sule Candia (January 27, 1934 – June 7, 2002) was a Chilean politician, member of the Radical Party and, afterwards, of the Social Democrat Radical Party. Sule Candia was also one of fourteen vice-presidents of the Socialist International. Biography Early, and personal life Anselmo Sule Candia was born in Santiago, on January 27, 1934; his parents were Anselmo Sule Redovnicovic and Rosa de Candia Gamonal. He lived his childhood in the city of Los Andes; there are reports that he was born there. Sule studied Law in the University of Chile, where he graduated in 1956 with his thesis "El sindicalismo argentino" (), moving temporarily to Buenos Aires to conduct his on-site research attending union meetings and political syndicalist lectures. Vicar (cartoonist)
Vicar, a pseudonym for VÃctor José Arriagada RÃos (April 16, 1934 – January 3, 2012), was a Chilean cartoonist, known for his prolific career drawing Disney comics. Biography While studying art and theatre, Vicar started his illustrating career with political caricature drawings. Vicar moved to Spain in 1960, doing various illustrating works, and entered the comics field in 1966. Five years later, he started to draw Disney comics for the Danish publisher Gutenberghus (now the Egmont Group). He moved back to Chile in 1975. Vicar's position in the Disney comic field grew with the years, and soon he had a studio, with several artists and inkers working for him. He wrote only two of his stories himself, ''The Winter Contest'' from 1986 and ''A Lucky Duck'' from 1997. Vicar and his crew produced up to 200 pages a year. Guido Mutis
Guido Mutis Carrasco (5 August 1934 in Yungay, Chile – 10 July 2008 in Valdivia, Chile) was an English literature professor at the Valdivia campus of the Austral University of Chile and director of the Valdivia International Film Festival. During his life he made important contributions to national cinema studies and Chilean literature. Education Guido studied to be an English professor at the Universidad de Chile. He finished his bachelor's degree in 1959 and then completed a master's degree at the Central Connecticut State University, United States, in 1960 after receiving a Fulbright scholarship. Eladio Rojas (footballer, Born 1934)
Eladio Alberto Rojas DÃaz (8 November 1934, in Tierra Amarilla, Chile – 13 January 1991, in Viña del Mar, Chile) was a former Chilean footballer who played as a midfielder for Everton and Colo-Colo of Chile, River Plate of Argentina, and the Chile national football team in the 1962 FIFA World Cup on home soil. Rojas scored the match winning goal for Chile in the 90th minute against Yugoslavia in the 1962 World Cup; his goal secured a third place finish for the World Cup hosts, which is Chile's best finish in the tournament to date. Rojas was also a starter on the River Plate teams of the 1960s that fiercely contested the Argentine Primera División title. Carlos Echazarreta Iñiguez
Carlos José Ramón Echazarreta Iñiguez (born 11 November 1934) was the 27th and 30th Mayor of Pichilemu, Mayor of the commune of Pichilemu, office which he held between May 1963 and May 1967, and through the early months of the Augusto Pinochet military regime, between September and November 1973. In 1967 he was succeeded by Carlos Rojas Pavez, and in 1973 he was succeeded by Mario Urrutia Carrasco. Echazarreta also was a ''regidor'' of Pichilemu for several terms between 1959 and 1973.
