Henrique Lopes De Mendonça
Henrique Lopes de Mendonça (3 July 1856 – 24 August 1931) was a Portuguese poet, playwright, novelist, novella and short story writer, and naval officer. He wrote several plays, and with his friend, the composer Alfredo Keil, he wrote the lyrics of the future Portuguese national anthem, ''A Portuguesa'', which was officially adopted in 1911. José Pereira (footballer)
José Costa Pereira MPIH (born 15 September 1931) is a Portuguese former footballer who played as a goalkeeper. He was nicknamed ''Pássaro Azul'' (Blue Bird). Club career Born in Torres Vedras, Lisbon District, Pereira played at club level for C.F. Os Belenenses and S.C. Beira-Mar. He appeared in 302 Primeira Liga matches with the former, retiring with the latter at almost 40 and moving with his wife to Barcelona, completely removing himself from the football world. International career Pereira earned 11 caps for Portugal, making his debut on 19 April 1965 in a 1–0 away win over Turkey for the 1966 FIFA World Cup qualifiers at the age of 33. In the finals in England, manager Otto Glória picked Joaquim Carvalho for the first game against Hungary, which ended with a 3–1 victory, but Pereira would be first choice for the remainder of the tournament, with the national team finishing in a best-ever third place. António De Macedo
António de Macedo (5 July 1931 − 5 October 2017) was a Portuguese filmmaker, writer, university professor and lecturer. He gave up filmmaking in the 1990s as he felt systematically excluded from the state support programs of the Portuguese Ministry of Culture, the only financial source for film production in Portugal in that time. As a consequence, he dedicated himself entirely to writing, investigation and teaching. He published several books, essays, philosophy and fiction. Biography Filmmaker Macedo was born in Lisbon, where he graduated in architecture at the ESBAL (Escola Superior de Belas-Artes), the Faculty of Fine Arts, in 1958. From then until 1964, he worked as an architect in the Town Hall of Lisbon. He abandoned his architect career in 1964 to devote himself to filmmaking as director and scriptwriter.
