Karolina Borchardt
Karolina Iwaszkiewicz Borchardt (26 July 1905 – 17 December 1995) was a Polish artist and aviator. She is recognised as one of the first women to earn a pilot's license from Poland. Born in Minsk, Borchardt became a test pilot and was recognised as Polish champion at the 1928 National Light Aircraft competition. Later, she emigrated to the United Kingdom and became a painter of expressionist art. Biography Karolina Iwaszkiewicz was born in Minsk on July 26, 1905. Her family belonged to a Polish community living in the then Russian Empire. She went to Vilnius for her high school education. After graduation, Karolina Iwaszkiewicz moved to Kraków to study at the University of Economics. While a student, she began flight training at the Academic Aeroclub of Kraków, where she took theoretical training and later a pilot course. Christian Schilt
Christian Frank Schilt (March 19, 1895 – January 8, 1987) was an American general in the U.S. Marine Corps. He was one of the first Marine Corps aviators and a recipient of the United States highest military decoration, the Medal of Honor. He received the Medal for using his biplane to evacuate wounded Marines under fire in Nicaragua. In addition to his actions in Nicaragua he saw action in World War I, the Haitian and Nicaraguan campaigns, World War II and the Korean War. He retired after nearly 40 years of active service and was promoted to the rank of four-star general at retirement. United States Marine Corps

Avro Avian
The Avro Avian is a series of United Kingdom, British light aircraft designed and built by Avro in the 1920s and 1930s. While the various versions of the Avian were sound aircraft, they were comprehensively outsold by the de Havilland Moth and its descendants. American examples manufactured under license by the Whittesley Manufacturing Co. in Bridgeport, Connecticut are also known as the Whittesley Avian. Design and development The Avro 581 Avian prototype was designed and built to compete in the Lympne light aircraft trials at Lympne Airport, Lympne Aerodrome in September 1926. Its wooden fuselage was based on that of the Avro 576 autogyro, but it was fitted with conventional biplane wings and powered by a 70 hp (50 kW) Armstrong Siddeley Genet engine. Mary, Lady Heath (17 November 1896 – 9 May 1939) was an Irish aviator and sportswoman. Born Sophie Catherine Theresa Mary Peirce-Evans in Knockaderry, County Limerick, near the town of Newcastle West. She was one of the best-known women in the world for a five-year period from the mid-1920s. Early life When Sophie Peirce-Evans was one year old, her father John Peirce-Evans, bludgeoned her mother Kate Theresa Dooling to death with a heavy stick. He was found guilty of murder and declared insane. His daughter was taken to the home of her grandfather in Newcastle West, County Limerick where she was brought up by two maiden aunts, who discouraged her passion for sports.
