Bushey is a town in the Hertsmere borough of Hertfordshire in the East of England. It had a population of 25,328 in the 2011 census, rising to 28,416 in the 2021 census, an increase of 12.19%. This makes Bushey the second most populated town in Hertsmere. Bushey Heath is a large neighbourhood south east of Bushey on the boundary with the London Borough of Harrow reaching elevations of above sea level. Etymology Bushey is first attested in the Domesday Book of 1086 in the form ''Bissei''. Although there has been some debate, modern, scholarly commentary has concluded that the name originated as a compound noun, compound of the Old English words ''bysc'' ('bush, thicket') and ''hæg'' ('enclosure'). Thus it once meant 'enclosure made of bushes'. Bushey Railway Station
Bushey is an interchange station in Hertfordshire which serves Bushey and Oxhey. It is located on an embankment where the Watford DC line, operated as the Lioness line of the London Overground, diverges from the West Coast Main Line (WCML). National Rail services along the WCML are operated by West Midlands Trains, London Northwestern Railway. The station is situated north of Harrow & Wealdstone station, Harrow & Wealdstone along the WCML. Immediately north of the station, the WCML crosses Watford's Lower High Street over Bushey Arches Viaduct and shortly afterwards crosses the River Colne, Hertfordshire, River Colne on another viaduct. History The London and Birmingham Railway first ran through here on 20 July 1837. A station was not initially provided, as the area was then sparsely populated. Bushey Studios
Bushey Studios was a British film studio located in Melbourne Road, Bushey, Hertfordshire which operated between 1913 and 1985. The studios were built by the film enthusiast Hubert von Herkomer in the grounds of his country house, Lululaund. They gradually took on a more professional air and in 1915 they were acquired by the British Actors Film Company for use as their principal production base. After the company ran into problems, the studio was closed during much of the 1920s. During the 1930s film boom, it was re-opened and used to produce a number of quota quickies. Frank Bushey
Francis Clyde Bushey (August 1, 1906 – March 18, 1972) was a pitcher who played for the Boston Red Sox (1927, 1930). Bushey batted and threw right-handed. He was born in Wheaton, Kansas. Over parts of two seasons, Bushey posted a won-loss record of 0–1 with four strikeouts and a 6.32 ERA in 31 innings pitched. Bushey died in Topeka, Kansas, at the age of 65.
