It played its first match on 2 September 2007 in Ouagadougou against Niger women's national football team, Niger and won 10–0, the best result till today. Its next matches were against Niger women's national football team, Niger (5–0) and Mali women's national football team, Mali (2–4). In the 2014 African Women's Championship qualification against Ghana women's national football team, Ghana, Burkina Faso lost by 6–0 on aggregate. The Gambia women's national football team (recognized at The Gambia by FIFA) represents the Gambia in international women's football. It is governed by the Gambia Football Federation. As of December 2019, it has only competed in one major international competition, the 2018 Africa Women Cup of Nations qualification.
