A Bundesliga (plural: Bundesligen), meaning ''Federal League'', is the highest league of competition for several sports in Austria and Germany. In English, the term most often refers to the top division of men's association football in Germany, the Bundesliga (full native name ''Fußball-Bundesliga''), which has operated since 1963. The Bundesliga (; ), sometimes referred to as the Fußball-Bundesliga () or 1. Bundesliga (), is a professional association football league in Germany. At the top of the German football league system, the Bundesliga is Germany's primary football competition. The Bundesliga comprises 18 teams and operates on a system of promotion and relegation with the 2. Bundesliga. Seasons run from August to May. Games are played on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. All of the Bundesliga clubs qualify for the DFB-Pokal. The winner of the Bundesliga qualifies for the DFL-Supercup. Fifty-six clubs have competed in the Bundesliga since its founding. Bayern Munich has won 31 of 59 titles, as well as the last ten seasons. The Austrian Football League (AFL) is the highest level of American football in Austria founded in 1984. The Austrian Football League (AFL) has always been considered among the best and strongest leagues in Europe. The league plays by rules based on those of the NCAA. The Women's 2. Volleyball Bundesliga or in (German : Die 2. Volleyball-Bundesliga der Frauen) is the second highest division in German women's volleyball. In this competition, two leagues (North and South ) are played, there is one round of matches with first and second legs. The first-placed team (champion) in each of these leagues is promoted to the 1st Bundesliga , while the last two teams in each are relegated to the third league. The German Women's volleyball League or in ( German : Volleyball-Bundesliga der Frauen ) is the highest division in German women's volleyball. The German champion has been determined in this competition since the 1976/77 season. Current mode The women's Bundesliga is made up of 11 teams in the 2018/19 season. The last placed teams after the main round descends into the second division . The teams in the first eight places are qualified for the playoffs. Except for the playoff final ( best-of-five mode ), all games were first played in best-of-three mode . In the season 2018/19 the first time the semi-finals in the best-of-five mode was held. The Tennis Bundesliga or 1. Bundesliga is the top level of the German tennis league system. It was formed in 1972. Contested by 10 clubs it operates on a system of promotion and relegation with the 2. Bundesliga (formed in 2001). Seasons are usually played in the months of July and August. Each team plays nine matches, one against each other team. A match between team consists of four singles matches followed by two doubles matches. The company Tennis Point sponsors the league and has acquired the naming rights in 2009, which resulted in the official title of the competition being ''Tennis-Point-Bundesliga''. As in many other sports, the premier German club competition in 10 metre air rifle and 10 metre air pistol is known as the Bundesliga. The league, open to both men and women, was created in 1997 and is administered by the German Shooting Federation. In each discipline, twenty four teams of five shooters each compete during a season spanning from October to February for the German team championship. The Women's Rugby Bundesliga is the top national competition for women's rugby union football clubs in Germany. The competition started in 1988 and the most successful teams are the SC Neuenheim, FC St. Pauli and Heidelberger RK.
