Bukit Timah
Bukit Timah ( ), often abbreviated as Bt Timah, is a planning area and residential estate located in the westernmost part of the Central Region of Singapore. Bukit Timah lies roughly from the Central Business District, bordering the Central Water Catchment to the north, Bukit Panjang to the northwest, Queenstown to the south, Tanglin to the southeast, Clementi to the southwest, Novena to the east and Bukit Batok to the west. It is further split into eight subzones, namely Anak Bukit, Coronation Road, Farrer Court, Hillcrest, Holland Road, Leedon Park, Swiss Club and Ulu Pandan. Owing to its prime location, Bukit Timah has some of the densest clusters of luxury condominiums and landed property in the city, with very few public housing. Bukit Timah Hill is the highest natural peak in Singapore. It is located in Bukit Panjang rather than its namesake district and its altitude is above sea level. Altitude The hill's altitude makes it the highest natural peak in Singapore. The highest ''point'' in Singapore, however, is the Guoco Tower, one of List of tallest buildings in Singapore, scores of buildings taller than the hill. Location and accessibility The hill is located in the Nature Reserve subzone of Bukit Panjang rather than its namesake district of Bukit Timah, near the geographical centre of Singapore. It is accessible via Hillview MRT station on the Downtown MRT line. The hill is now protected as part of the Bukit Timah Nature Reserve, which has been classified as an ASEAN Heritage Park. Bukit Timah Nature Reserve
The Bukit Timah Nature Reserve (abbreviation: BTNR) is a nature reserve near the geographic centre of Singapore, located on the slopes of Bukit Timah Hill, the country's highest natural peak standing at a height of approximately , and parts of the surrounding area, located actually in Bukit Panjang. The nature reserve is about from the Downtown Core, Singapore's central business district (CBD). Together with the neighbouring Central Catchment Nature Reserve (CCNR) in close proximity, it houses over 840 species of flowering plants and over 500 species of fauna (animals), fauna. Today, it is one of the largest patches of primary rainforest left in Singapore. The forest reserve was formally declared as an ASEAN Heritage Park on 18 October 2011. Bukit Timah Expressway
The Bukit Timah Expressway (BKE) is a highway in Singapore that starts at the Pan Island Expressway in Bukit Timah and travels north to the Woodlands Checkpoint and the Johor–Singapore Causeway in Woodlands, Singapore, Woodlands. History On 22 May 1982, tenders were called to build the expressway and construction began thereafter. Construction of the expressway began in 1983 and it was built in two stages, the first stage from Woodlands, Singapore, Woodlands to Mandai Road and the second from Mandai Road to the Pan-Island Expressway. Due to the hilly nature of the Bukit Timah area the second stage of the expressway went through, explosives were used to clear the area for construction. During the construction, the new road, Bukit Panjang Road was opened from BKE all the way to Woodlands Road, and new interchanges at Mandai Road and Woodlands Road were also added as well. Bukit Timah Road
Bukit Timah Road (; ; ) is a major road in Singapore extending from the city centre to Woodlands Road on the way to Johor Bahru in Malaysia. The road's 25-km (15.5 miles) length makes it one of the longest roads in Singapore, and the road takes its name from the hill. En route, it passes through the areas of Little India, Singapore, Little India, Newton Road, Farrer Road, Singapore Botanic Gardens, Bukit Timah and Bukit Panjang. Downtown MRT Line
The Downtown Line (DTL) is a medium-capacity Mass Rapid Transit (Singapore), Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) line in Singapore. It runs from Bukit Panjang MRT/LRT station, Bukit Panjang station in the north-west of the country towards Expo MRT station, Expo station in the east via a loop around the Central Area, Singapore, city-centre. Bukit Timah Railway Station
Bukit Timah railway station is a former railway station and crossing loop in Bukit Timah, in the westernmost part of the Central Region of Singapore. Opened on the dismantled Tank Road mainline in 1903, it was rebuilt on the current Singapore–Johor Bahru KTM Intercity mainline in 1932, until the Jurong line shut down and it became a crossing loop station in the late 1940s until closure. The station was a freight interchange for the now defunct Jurong line from 1965 to the early 1990s. The station closed in 2011, and it is now a conserved recreational building and museum that is part of the Rail Corridor. Bukit Timah Race Course
The Bukit Timah Race Course was a venue for Thoroughbred horse racing in the Bukit Timah area of Singapore. Built by the Bukit Timah Turf Club, it was opened on 15 April 1933 by the Governor of Singapore. There was no racing from 1941 through 1946 as a result of World War II. During its sixty-six years, Bukit Timah Race Course was visited by numerous Singapore and foreign dignitaries including a 1972 visit by racing fan and Thoroughbred owner, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, Prince Philip and Princess Anne. In honor of her visit, the Queen Elizabeth II Cup was established. In 1959 the Singapore Derby was revived at Bukit Timah Race Course and was the feature race on its final day of operation on 25 July 1999. It was closed to make way for Kranji Racecourse. This is a list of primary schools in Singapore. Children typically start their primary education in the year they turn seven. Primary education lasts six years, and is compulsory for all Singapore citizens. Primary schools in Singapore are either classified as Government or Government-aided schools. Primary schools are typically mixed-sex, though there are a number of single-sex schools. The Bukit Timah Satellite Earth Station ( Chinese: 武吉知马卫星地面站; ) is the second satellite earth station in Singapore after Sentosa Satellite Earth Station in Sentosa Island. The station is located in Bukit Timah near Chantek flyover between the Bukit Timah Expressway (BKE) and Pan Island Expressway (PIE). As it is located next to the BKE, motorists coming into Singapore via the causeway see this as their first landmark other than Woodlands. Bukit Timah Monkey Man
The Bukit Timah Monkey Man, commonly abbreviated as BTM or BTMM, is a legendary creature said to inhabit Singapore, chiefly in the forested Bukit Timah region. The creature is often cited as a forest-dwelling hominidae, hominid or primate, and is also accounted for as being immortal; however, its exact identity remains unknown, and its existence disputed. Documentation of the BTM is sparse and scattered; the creature is largely considered a product of local folklore. Alleged sightings of the animal are rare. Records mainly come from Malays (ethnic group), Malay folklore, accounts from Empire of Japan, Japanese soldiers in World War II, and occasional unconfirmed reports from local residents. The first claimed sighting is said to have occurred in about 1805; the most recent was in 2020. Holland–Bukit Timah Group Representation Constituency
The Holland–Bukit Timah Group Representation Constituency is a four-member Group Representation Constituency (GRC) located in the central, western and northern areas of Singapore. The GRC consists of four divisions: Cashew, Bukit Timah, Ulu Pandan and Zhenghua managed by Holland Bukit Panjang Town Council. The current MPs are Sim Ann, Vivian Balakrishnan, Christopher de Souza and Edward Chia from the People's Action Party (PAP).
