Buckley Roderick
William Buckley Roderick (17 January 1862 – 1 February 1908) was a Welsh solicitor, international rugby union forward and later a Vice-Consular for Spain. Roderick played club rugby for Llanelli Rugby Football Club and international rugby for Wales. Business career Roderick was commissioned into the 1st Volunteer Regiment of the Welsh Regiment in 1882, and eventually rose to the rank of captain. He was awarded the Volunteer Officers' Decoration (VD) on 30 December 1902. By 1885 Roderick had commenced his practice as a solicitor in Llanelli founding Rodericks Solicitors. Roderick held many posts throughout his career, including serving on the Local Board of Health in Llanelli, becoming a coroner within Carmarthen County and he was also Registrar for Llanelli County Court. Buckley Machin (21 October 1901 – 20 June 1963) was an English-born Australian politician. He was born in Worksop in Nottinghamshire to coal miner John Machin and Martha Elizabeth Denman. He was a coal miner, and around 1926 married Florence Shaw, with whom he had one son, Peter born in Australia in 1933. He left England after the 1926 general strike and migrated to Australia around 1927, becoming a clerk and insurance agent. From 1939 he worked for Footscray City Council, first as an assistant storeman and cost clerk. From 1953 to 1955 he was the inaugural weights and measures inspector. A Labor Party member, he was elected to the Victorian Legislative Council for Melbourne West Province in 1955. In 1959 he introduced the first Clean Air Bill into the state parliament. The Buckley River Important Bird Area comprises a 4790 km2 tract of land in the Gulf Country of north-western Queensland, Australia. It lies about 20 km north of the mining city of Mount Isa in the Waggaboonyah Range. It is an important site for Carpentarian grasswrens. Description The boundary of the Important Bird Area (IBA) is defined by the boundaries of pastoral leases containing sites at which the grasswrens have been recorded. The Buckley River, a major tributary of the Georgina River system of the Lake Eyre Basin, runs through the central parts of the IBA and has its source within it. Some 95% of the site is within cattle stations, about 80% is covered by mineral exploration leases, and about 5% is subject to active mining leases.
