Buc-ee's Holdings, Inc., commonly referred to as Buc-ee's, is an American chain of country stores, gas stations, and electric vehicle chargers created and owned by Arch "Beaver" Aplin III, headquartered in Lake Jackson, a city south of Houston. The chain was founded in 1982 in Clute next to Lake Jackson and began expansion with its first travel center in Luling south of Austin, Texas in 2003. The company began expanding outside of Texas in 2018 with the opening of a location in Baldwin County, Alabama and has since opened stores in Georgia, Florida, Kentucky, South Carolina, Tennessee, Colorado, Missouri, and Mississippi with new locations planned for North Carolina, Ohio, Virginia, Louisiana, Arkansas, Arizona, Kansas, Wisconsin, and Oklahoma. As of June 2024, the largest Buc-ee's is located in Luling, Texas. The chain has also become well known for the cleanliness of its bathrooms and its mascot. Luling, Texas
Luling is a city in Caldwell County, Texas, Caldwell and Guadalupe County, Texas, Guadalupe counties, Texas, United States, along the San Marcos River. The population as of the 2020 United States census, 2020 census was 5,599. History The town was named after a New York banker, Charles Luling. He was a personal friend of Thomas Wentworth Pierce and provided the financing for the railroad as well the purchase of the land that became Luling. Prior to the founding of the town, a small farming community named Atlanta was established nearby, with residents associating themselves with the newly founded Luling, causing Atlanta to fade. Luling was founded in 1874 as a railroad town and became a rowdy center for the Cattle drives in the United States, cattle drivers on the Chisholm Trail. Lake Jackson, Texas
Lake Jackson is a city in Brazoria County, Texas, United States, within the Greater Houston metropolitan area. As of the 2020 census, the city population was 28,177. In 1942 a portion of Lake Jackson was first developed as a company town for workers of the Dow Chemical Company; it developed 5,000 acres on the former Abner Jackson Plantation. An oxbow lake was also named after the planter, whose house was located at the lake. Minor ruins of the Lake Jackson Plantation can now be seen in a park at the site.
