Buangkok MRT Station
Buangkok MRT station is an underground Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) station on the North East Line (NEL) in Singapore, located near the road intersection of Sengkang Central with Compassvale Bow. The station serves the residential neighbourhood of Buangkok; the Buangkok Bus Interchange; Sengkang Grand Residence and Sengkang Grand Mall, which is a integrated commercial and residential development. The station was first announced in March 1996 and construction began in April 1997. Buangkok station remained closed when the NEL began operations on 20 June 2003, upsetting the area's residents. Despite lobbying by grassroots leaders, the government supported SBS Transit's decision, citing low expected usage that would have made the station a "white elephant". SMRT Corporation is a multi-modal public transport operator in Singapore operating bus and rail services. Sengkang MRT/LRT station is a Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) and Light Rail Transit (LRT) interchange station in Sengkang, Singapore. It is an interchange between the North East line (NEL) and Sengkang LRT (SKLRT). Along with Buangkok station, it is located within the Sengkang planning area. The LRT station opened on 18 January 2003 along with the other East loop stations on the SKLRT, with the NEL station opening later on 20 June. Charles Chong You Fook ( zh, s=张有福, p=Zhāng Yǒufú; born 24 June 1953) is a Singaporean former politician who served as Deputy Speaker of the Parliament of Singapore between 2011 and 2020. 1997 Asian Financial Crisis
The 1997 Asian financial crisis gripped much of East Asia, East and Southeast Asia during the late 1990s. Woodleigh MRT Station
Woodleigh MRT station is an underground Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) station on the North East line (NEL), in Bidadari, Singapore. The station is underneath Upper Serangoon Road, near the junction with Upper Aljunied Road. Areas served include the Bidadari Estate, Stamford American International School and Woodleigh Residences. Woodleigh was first announced along with the 16 NEL stations in March 1996. Though it was completed along with the rest of the NEL in June 2003, the station remained closed due to the lack of local developments. It eventually opened in June 2011.
