''Bryoria hengduanensis'' is a species of lichen of the genus '' Bryoria''. It was described as new to science in 2003 by lichenologists Li-Song Wang and Hiroshi Harada. It is found in the Hengduan Mountains of southern China, where it grows on twigs and branches in coniferous forests at elevations of . The Hengduan Mountains is a region of high ''Bryoria'' biodiversity, as 24 species are known from this area. The lichen is fruticose, hair-like, hanging (pendent) from its substratum, and typically reaches lengths of long, although specimens up to have been recorded. It is black in parts near its base, and pale brown near the tips. The lichen has linear pseudocyphellae (with a depressed or fissured surface indentation) that twist into long spirals. ''Bryoria'' is a genus of lichenized fungi in the family Parmeliaceae. Many members of this genus are known as horsehair lichens. The genus has a widespread distribution, especially in boreal and cool temperate areas. Taxonomy ''Bryoria'' was circumscribed in 1977 by lichenologists Irwin Brodo and David Hawksworth, with '' Bryoria trichodes'' as the type species. Usnic acid is a naturally occurring dibenzofuran derivative found in several lichen species with the formula C18H16O7. It was first isolated by German scientist W. Knop in 1844 and first synthesized between 1933-1937 by Curd and Robertson.
