A village is a human settlement or Residential community, community, larger than a hamlet (place), hamlet but smaller than a town with a population typically ranging from a few hundred to a few thousand. Although villages are often located in rural areas, the term urban village is also applied to certain urban neighborhoods. Villages are normally permanent, with fixed dwellings; however, transient villages can occur. Further, the dwellings of a village are fairly close to one another, not scattered broadly over the landscape, as a dispersed settlement. Upper Palatinate
The Upper Palatinate (; , , ) is an administrative district in the east of Bavaria, Germany. It consists of seven districts and 226 municipalities, including three cities. Geography The Upper Palatinate is a landscape with low mountains and numerous ponds and lakes in its lowland regions. By contrast with other regions of Germany it is more rural in character and more sparsely settled. It borders (clockwise from the north) on Upper Franconia, the Czech Republic, Lower Bavaria, Upper Bavaria and Middle Franconia. Regensburg (district)
Regensburg is a Districts of Germany, ''Landkreis'' (district) in Bavaria, Germany. It is bounded by (from the north, in clockwise direction) the districts of Schwandorf (district), Schwandorf, Cham (district), Cham, Straubing-Bogen, Kelheim (district), Kelheim and Neumarkt (district), Neumarkt. The city of Regensburg is enclosed by it, but is not part of the district; nonetheless it is its administrative seat. History The region became a part of Bavaria in the late 12th century, when the line of the counts of Regensburg and Stefling came to an end. While Regensburg became a Free Imperial City (meaning subordinate to the Holy Roman Emperor, emperor only), the surrounding lands were Bavarian property.
