Bruce Rowland (drummer)
Bruce Rowland (22 May 1941 – 29 June 2015) was an English rock drummer best known for his memberships of The Grease Band and folk rock band Fairport Convention. He was also a prolific session musician. Early career Rowland was born at Park Royal, Middlesex, on 22 May 1941. In 1968, he played drums on the Wynder K. Frog album "''Out of the Frying Pan''", and in 1969 joined The Grease Band, who were then Joe Cocker's backing band. He played for Cocker's performance at the Woodstock Festival, on Cocker's second album, ''Joe Cocker!'', and on the UK top ten hit single "Delta Lady". In 1970, Cocker and the Grease Band parted company, and Rowland stayed with the latter for their albums ''The Grease Band'' (1971) and ''Amazing Grease''. During this period, Rowland also played session for Shawn Phillips, Andy Mackay, Jackie Lomax, Gallagher and Lyle, and others, also contributing drums to the original recording of ''Jesus Christ Superstar''. Park Royal is an area in North West London, England, divided between the London Borough of Ealing and the London Borough of Brent. Shawn Phillips
Shawn Phillips (born February 3, 1943) is an American singer-songwriter and musician, primarily influential in the 1960s and 1970s. His work is rooted in folk rock but straddles other genres, including jazz fusion and funk. Phillips has recorded twenty-eight albums and worked with musicians including Donovan, Paul Buckmaster, J. Peter Robinson, Eric Clapton, Steve Winwood, Bernie Taupin, Tim Hardin, Manos Hatzidakis and many others. Rock impresario Bill Graham described the Texas-born musician as "the best kept secret in the music business". ''Gottle O'Geer'' (credited to "Fairport" and to "Fairport Featuring Dave Swarbrick" in the US) is the eleventh studio album by English folk rock band Fairport Convention. The album was released through Island Records in May 1976. The departure of Sandy Denny, Trevor Lucas and Jerry Donahue following '' Rising for the Moon'' in 1975 left Fairport Convention reduced to Dave Swarbrick, Dave Pegg and Bruce Rowland, and contractually obliged to produce one more album for Island Records. This album was the result, and AllMusic described it as "listless". Dave Mattacks
David James Mattacks (born 13 March 1948) is an English rock and folk drummer, best known for his work with British folk rock band Fairport Convention. Fairport Convention He replaced Martin Lamble, who had died on 12 May 1969 in a road accident on the M1 motorway, as the drummer for Fairport Convention. Mattacks left Fairport Convention in early 1972 to join The Albion Country Band. Meanwhile, he had also contributed to numerous studio recordings such as the Morris On project, Nick Drake's '' Bryter Layter'', Steve Ashley's " Stroll On" sessions, Steeleye Span's debut album '' Hark! ''Rising for the Moon'' is the tenth studio album by the British folk rock band Fairport Convention, released in 1975. It reached number 52 in the UK albums charts. This was the last Fairport album to feature vocalist Sandy Denny. Historical perspective During this period, the band was dubbed by some fans—in a tongue-in-cheek manner—as "Fotheringay Convention" and "Fotheringport Confusion", as the core of Fotheringay (Denny, her husband Trevor Lucas, and Jerry Donahue) joined the remaining members of the early 1970s version of Fairport (Dave Pegg, Dave Mattacks and Dave Swarbrick) for this version of the band. A bootleg recording is an audio or video recording of a performance not officially released by the artist or under other legal authority. Making and distributing such recordings is known as ''bootlegging''. Recordings may be copied and traded among fans without financial exchange, but some bootleggers have sold recordings for profit, sometimes by adding professional-quality sound engineering and packaging to the raw material. Bootlegs usually consist of unreleased studio recordings, live performances or interviews without the quality control of official releases. Mahoney's Last Stand
''Mahoney's Last Stand'' is an album by Faces bandmates Ronnie Wood and Ronnie Lane, recorded in 1972 (with sessions overlapping with the early rehearsals for the Faces' final studio album '' Ooh La La''). It is the music soundtrack album of the low-budget 1972 Canadian film ''Mahoney's Last Stand'' (original US title: ''Mahoney's Estate'') starring Alexis Kanner (who also produced the film), Sam Waterston and Maud Adams. The film itself, little seen at the time of its release and even less so since, charts the progress of city-dweller Mahoney (Kanner) who abandons his urban existence to become a homesteader, and the drama that ensues. Ronnie Wood
Ronald David Wood (born 1 June 1947) is an English rock musician, best known as a member of the Rolling Stones since 1975, and a member of Faces and the Jeff Beck Group. Wood began his career in 1964, playing lead guitar with several British rhythm and blues bands in short succession, including the Birds and the Creation. He joined the Jeff Beck Group in 1967 as a guitarist and bassist, playing on the albums ''Truth'' and '' Beck-Ola''. The group split in 1969, and Wood departed along with lead vocalist Rod Stewart to join former Small Faces members Ronnie Lane, Ian McLagan and Kenney Jones in a new group named Faces with Wood now primarily on lead guitar. ''Anymore for Anymore'' is the debut solo album by Ronnie Lane, one of the founding members of Small Faces and Faces. The recording sessions, using Ronnie Lane's Mobile Studio, started in 1973 at his farm in Wales with his new band Slim Chance. Lane had originally wanted to rechristen the Small Faces with the name Slim Chance in 1969 after Steve Marriott left the group, but when Ron Wood and then Rod Stewart joined them soon after, the other band members vetoed the idea and instead opted to slightly amend their existing name to Faces. Ronnie Lane
Ronald Frederick Lane (1 April 1946 – 4 June 1997) was an English musician and songwriter who was the bassist and co-founder of the rock bands Small Faces (1965–69) and Faces (band), Faces (1969–73). Lane formed Small Faces in 1965 after meeting Steve Marriott, with whom he subsequently wrote many of their hit singles including "All or Nothing (Small Faces song), All or Nothing", "Itchycoo Park" and "Lazy Sunday (Small Faces song), Lazy Sunday". After Marriott left Small Faces in 1968, band members Lane, Ian McLagan and Kenney Jones, Kenny Jones were joined by Rod Stewart and Ronnie Wood to form Faces (band), Faces. ''Jesus Christ Superstar'' is a 1970 album musical written by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice, and the debut of the rock opera of the same name. Initially unable to get backing for a stage production, the composers released it as an album, the success of which led to stage productions premiering in 1971. The musical dramatises the Passion of Jesus, beginning with his entry into Jerusalem and ending with the crucifixion. It was originally banned by the BBC on grounds of being "sacrilegious".
