British Virgin Islands At The 2018 Commonwealth Games
The British Virgin Islands competed at the 2018 Commonwealth Games in the Gold Coast, Australia from April 4 to April 15, 2018. The British Virgin Islands announced it will send a squad of 10 athletes. It was the British Virgin Islands's 8th appearance at the Commonwealth Games. Track and field athlete Kyron McMaster was the country's flag bearer during the opening ceremony. The islands also won its first ever Commonwealth Games medal, through McMaster winning the gold in the men's 400 m hurdles event. Joseph S. Chapman (born 22 July 1990 in Bristol, United Kingdom) is a squash player who represents the British Virgin Islands in regional Games as well as at the CAC Games and Commonwealth Games Melbourne 2006, Delhi 2010, Glasgow 2014 and Gold Coast 2018. In Melbourne 2006 he became the youngest player to compete in squash. In Delhi 2010 he was the nation's flag-bearer. In Gold Coast he won the plate competition by beating Cayman Islands Cameron Stafford in the finals. Chapman is the son of Mark and Heather Chapman. Chantel Malone
Chantel Ellen Malone (born 2 December 1991 in Puerto Rico) is an athlete representing the British Virgin Islands who competes in the long jump and sprinting events. Malone attended Althea Scatiffe Primary School before attending BVI High School, which Is now known as Elmore Stoutt High School. In college, she was the Conference Champion for both indoor and outdoor track and field events, named All-American at the NCAA Division 1 Championship, and was a finalist at the World Junior Championships in two events, the long jump and the 400. She placed fourth at the Commonwealth Games, won gold at the CAC Championships, and most recently won a silver medal at the NACAC Championships. In August 2015, Malone joined with Digicel as a brand ambassador. She will act as a spokesperson for the brand with a special focus on youth and sports throughout the British Virgin Islands and be featured in Digicel's advertising campaign, highlighting the territory's most reliable 4G network.
