British Consulate General In Jerusalem
The British Consulate General in Jerusalem is the British High Diplomatic Representation in the occupied Palestinian Territories. The consulate is located in the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood of Jerusalem. In February 2021, the British Consul-General in Jerusalem, Philip Hall, condemned settlements in the West Bank as "illegal and an obstacle to restarting peace talks" between Israel and Palestine. Jerusalem is a city in the Southern Levant, on a plateau in the Judaean Mountains between the Mediterranean Sea, Mediterranean and the Dead Sea. Palestinian Territories
The occupied Palestinian territories, also referred to as the Palestinian territories, consist of the West Bank (including East Jerusalem) and the Gaza Strip—two regions of the former Mandate for Palestine, British Mandate for Palestine that have been occupied by Israel since the Six-Day War of 1967. Sheikh Jarrah
Sheikh Jarrah (, ) is a predominantly Palestinian neighborhood in East Jerusalem, north of the Old City, on the road to Mount Scopus. It received its name from the 13th-century tomb of Hussam al-Din al-Jarrahi, a physician of Saladin, located within its vicinity. The modern neighborhood was founded in 1865 and gradually became a residential center of Jerusalem's Muslim elite, particularly the al-Husayni family. After the 1948 Arab–Israeli War, it became under Jordanian-held East Jerusalem, bordering the no-man's land area with Israeli-held West Jerusalem until Israel occupied the neighborhood in the 1967 Six-Day War. Most of its present Palestinian population is said to come from refugees expelled from Jerusalem's Talbiya neighbourhood in 1948. Philip Hall (diplomat)
Philip Ridley Hall (born 11 October 1967) is a British diplomat and solicitor, who is currently the Ambassador of the United Kingdom to Jordan. Early life Philip Ridley Hall was born in Chichester, West Sussex on 11 October 1967. Hall was born to J. Ridley Hall and Janette Lavinia Hall. Hall was educated at Cranleigh School, and attended Gonville and Caius College, Cambridge, graduating with a BA in Law in 1989. He completed a Postgraduate Certificate in European Integration (Law) at Saarland University, graduating in 1993. He later studied for an Executive Masters in Public Policy at the London School of Economics, graduating in 2017. Career Between 1994 and 1997, Hall worked for HM Treasury. The West Bank is located on the western bank of the Jordan River and is the larger of the two Palestinian territories (the other being the Gaza Strip) that make up the State of Palestine. The Middle East Monitor (MEMO) is a not-for-profit press monitoring organisation and lobbying group that emerged in mid 2009. Diane Corner
Diane Louise Corner (born 29 September 1959) is a British diplomat who served as the British Consul General in Jerusalem from 2021 until 2024. She was previously the Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary General of United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic, MINUSCA between 2014 and 2017. Education and career Corner attended The Westgate School, Winchester, Winchester County High School for Girls, before continuing her education at Peter Symonds College in Winchester. She went on to study BA French and Politics at the University of Bristol, and later achieved a MA in War Studies from King's College London.
