Bristol Rovers F.C. Player Of The Year
The Bristol Rovers Player of the Year award has been presented annually to the player voted the best in the preceding season by the fans of Bristol Rovers F.C., Bristol Rovers Football Club. The winning player has been awarded a trophy by the Bristol Rovers Supporters club every year since 1983,Byrne & Jay (2018), p. 323 and in 2018 the Football Club also began naming their own player of the year at an end-of-season awards dinner. Bristol Rovers Supporters' Club player of the year The first trophy was presented in 1983, but due to there being little space to engrave the names of any more winners the supporters' club commissioned a new trophy in 2018, which was named the Geoff Dunford Memorial Trophy in honour of the former football club chairman who had died the previous year. Nigel Martyn
Antony Nigel Martyn (born 11 August 1966) is an English football coach and former professional footballer who played as a goalkeeper. He notably played in the Premier League for Crystal Palace, Leeds United and Everton, having initially played in the Football League with Bristol Rovers. His move to Palace saw him become the first £1 million goalkeeper in British football and was a member of the Palace side that lost the 1990 Cup Final and won the Full Members Cup in 1991. An ankle injury forced him to retire in 2006. He won 23 England caps between 1992 and 2002 and was a member of the national squad at four major tournaments. Andy Tillson
Andy Tillson (born 30 June 1966) is an English football coach and former player who was head coach at Team Bath. Following Team Bath's decision to disband at the end of the 2008–09 season, Tillson was initially appointed as Weymouth's assistant manager, but on 15 June 2009 it was announced that he would instead join Exeter City as First Team Coach under manager Paul Tisdale. He was signed for Queens Park Rangers by Don Howe in 1990 from Grimsby Town along with Darren Peacock to cover a major injury crisis at Loftus Road and made his debut in the 1–1 draw with Derby County. He was a central defender and his chances were limited once Alan McDonald, Danny Maddix and Paul Parker returned from injury. Worrell Ricardo Sterling (born 8 June 1965) is an English former professional footballer who played as a winger. Sterling began his career as a trainee with Watford, before signing as a professional with them in 1983. Gary Waddock
Gary Patrick Waddock (born 17 March 1962) is a former professional footballer. He is assistant head coach at Walsall. A midfielder, he spent most of his career playing for Queens Park Rangers and Luton Town. He also had stints at Belgian club Charleroi and at Millwall, Swindon Town and Bristol Rovers. Born in England, he represented the Republic of Ireland internationally at youth and senior levels, making 21 appearances and scoring 3 goals for the Republic of Ireland senior national team. Carl Saunders (footballer)
Carl Saunders (born 26 November 1964) is an English former professional footballer who spent most of his career at Stoke City and Bristol Rovers. Career Saunders was born in Birmingham and began his career with Stoke City making his debut as a substitute in a 3–1 defeat in 1982–83. He played 27 times in 1984–85 scoring his first senior goal against Manchester United to earn Stoke a 2–1. However that was a rare highlight that season as Stoke were relegated with a record low points tally. He scored three goals in 44 matches in 1985–86 before finding good goalscoring form in 1986–87. Saunders formed a fine partnership with Nicky Morgan and he top-scored with 19 goals. However, he lost his form and in his next three seasons at the Victoria Ground he scored just six goals before being sold to Bristol Rovers by Alan Ball in February 1990.
