Alexander Briant, SJ (17 August 1556 – 1 December 1581) was an English Jesuit and martyr, executed at Tyburn. Life He was born in Somerset, and entered Hart Hall, Oxford (now Hertford College), at an early age. While there, he became a pupil of Robert Parsons, and he completed his studies with him at Balliol College, which, along with his association with Richard Holtby, led to his conversion. After leaving university, he entered the English College at Reims then went to the English College, Douai, and was ordained priest on 29 March 1578. Frank Briant (30 November 1865 – 1 September 1934) was a radical British Liberal Party politician who served as a Member of Parliament for Lambeth North. Gavin Aubrey Briant (born 11 April 1969) is a former Zimbabwean international cricketer. Briant was a right-handed batsman and a cover fielder who also occasionally kept wicket. He played one Test match and five One Day Internationals for the Zimbabwe national cricket team in February and March 1993, and was also a member of the team that won the ICC Trophy in 1990. Pierre Briant (born 30 September 1940 in Angers) is a French Iranologist, Professor of History and Civilisation of the Achaemenid World and the Empire of Alexander the Great at the Collège de France (1999 onwards), Doctor Honoris Causa at the University of Chicago, and founder of the website achemenet.com. Robin Helen Briant (born 1939) is a New Zealand doctor and clinical pharmacologist. In 1994 she was appointed a Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire for services to the medical profession. She was awarded a New Zealand 1990 Commemoration Medal and a New Zealand Suffrage Centennial Medal. Early life and education Briant was born in Gisborne and grew up on a farm in Patutahi, as one of five children of Amy Helen and Stanley Daynton Briant. She attended Patutahi Primary School and Iona College in Havelock North. Briant graduated from high school in 1957 and worked as a laboratory technician for several years. Briant gained her medical degree at the University of Otago in 1965, and then worked as a house surgeon and a locum GP in Auckland.
