Brian Paul Schmidt (born 24 February 1967) is an American Australian astrophysics, astrophysicist at the Australian National University's Mount Stromlo Observatory and Research School of Astronomy and Astrophysics. He was the Vice-Chancellor of the Australian National University (ANU) from January 2016 to January 2024. He is known for his research in using supernovae as cosmological probes. He previously held a Federation Fellowship and a Australian Research Council Laureate Fellow, Laureate Fellowship from the Australian Research Council, and was List of Fellows of the Royal Society elected in 2012, elected a Fellow of the Royal Society (FRS) in 2012. Schmidt shared both the 2006 Shaw Prize in Astronomy and the 2011 Nobel Prize in Physics with Saul Perlmutter and Adam Riess for providing evidence that the accelerating universe, expansion of the universe is accelerating. Bryan Carlos Schmidt (born 19 November 1995) is an Argentine professional footballer who plays as a forward for Villa San Carlos. Career Schmidt started in the youth of Argentine Primera División club Arsenal de Sarandí. He first featured in the senior matchday squad when he was selected on the substitutes bench for a 2013–14 league match against Belgrano on 11 May 2014. He subsequently made his first-team debut the following season on 6 December in a 1–6 away win against Atlético de Rafaela, his only appearance during the 2014 campaign. He has edited (or co-edited) twenty-two anthologies, and written a space opera trilogy, and an ongoing, near-future police procedural series set in Kansas City, Missouri, and a near future thriller novel being developed as a motion picture. He wrote a non-fiction book on how to write a novel. He was a finalist, with Jennifer Brozek, for the 2015 Hugo Award for Best Professional Editor for the anthology ''Shattered Shields''.
