Brian O'Connell (23 January 1930 – 21 March 2011) was an American author, academic, and public administrator who helped found Independent Sector, an organization that represents the interests of charities, foundations and nonprofit giving programs in the United States. In 1980, O’Connell joined John W. Gardner, the Secretary of Health, Education and Welfare in the Johnson administration and the founder of Common Cause, to create Independent Sector, which now (2012) has 550 member nonprofit organizations. O’Connell and Gardner, who died in 2002, saw the need for an umbrella organization that could speak for all charities and other nonprofit groups and represent their interests in Washington. Brian O'Connell is an American multi-instrumentalist, composer, arranger, record producer and actor. He is the bassist and producer for Pakistani sufi rock band Junoon. O'Connell and Salman Ahmad were friends of one another since high school. O'Connell joined Junoon when keyboardist, Nusrat Hussain, left the band and Salman Ahmad contacted and invited him to play bass on the band's second album, '' Talaash''. He is known for harmonizing the western 5-string bass riffs with the traditional tabla and drums. After the release of the band's seventh studio album, ''Dewaar'', O'Connell went back to his native land the United States. Brian O'Connell (born 17 February 1984) is an Irish former hurler and manager. At club level he played with Wolfe Tones, and also lined out at inter-county level with various Clare teams. O'Connell has been the Clare minor hurling team manager since 2021. Playing career Born in Shannon, County Clare, O'Connell first played hurling at juvenile and underage levels with the Wolfe Tones club. He eventually progressed to adult level and won a Clare SHC medal after a defeat of Newmarket-on-Fergus in 2006. O'Connell first appeared on the inter-county scene with Clare as a member of the minor team in 2002. He later spent three consecutive seasons with the under-21 team. O'Connell was drafted onto the senior team in 2003 and served as captain for three consecutive seasons, including during Clare's 2008 Munster final defeat by Tipperary.
