Bracken (TV Series)
''Bracken'' is a television drama serial broadcast from 1980 to 1982 on RTÉ 1 in Ireland, depicting rural life in and around County Wicklow. Created and written by Wesley Burrowes, it starred Gabriel Byrne and Niall Tóibín. The show is chiefly known for being the link between two long standing RTÉ series, in that Gabriel Byrne's character, Pat Barry, had first appeared in ''The Riordans'', towards the end of that show's run. The characters of Dinny and Miley Byrne, played by Joe Lynch and Mick Lally, first appeared on this series, they were later to become the central stars of ''Glenroe''. Each of the three series were created by Wesley Burrowes. Soap Opera
A soap opera (also called a daytime drama or soap) is a genre of a long-running radio or television Serial (radio and television), serial, frequently characterized by melodrama, ensemble casts, and sentimentality. County Wicklow
County Wicklow ( ; ) is a Counties of Ireland, county in Republic of Ireland, Ireland. Dana Wynter
Dana Wynter (born Dagmar Winter; 8 June 19315 May 2011) was a German-born British actress, who was raised in the United Kingdom and southern Africa. She appeared in film and television for more than 40 years, beginning in the 1950s. Her best-known film performance was in '' Invasion of the Body Snatchers'' (1956). A tall, dark, elegant beauty, she played both victim and villain. Fiona Victory (born 1952) is an Irish actress. Her television roles include Louise Daly in ''Bracken'' (1980), Harriet Wright in ''Shine on Harvey Moon'' (1982), Maeve Phelan in '' The Hanging Gale'' (1995) and Dr Annie Robbins in '' Dangerfield'' (1997). She has also appeared in the films ''Return to Oz'' (1985) and '' Swept from the Sea'' (1997). Sean Lawlor
Sean Lawlor (25 January 1954 – 10 October 2009) was an Irish character actor and playwright. He was best known for his portrayal of Malcolm Wallace in ''Braveheart''. He also appeared in ''Titanic'', ''In the Name of the Father'' and '' On Broadway''. He appeared in many Irish television films and the RTÉ series ''Bracken'', as well as parts in many Irish films. He produced plays for the stage including his own one-man play, ''The Watchman'', in which he starred. Wesley Burrowes
Wesley Burrowes (15 April 193031 December 2015) was an Irish playwright and screenwriter. Originally from Northern Ireland, he became a resident of the Republic of Ireland. He was best known as the chief scriptwriter on ''The Riordans'' and ''Glenroe'', two of the most successful drama series produced by RTÉ Television. Early life Wesley Burrowes was born and raised in Bangor, County Down in Northern Ireland. Glenroe
''Glenroe'' is an Irish television soap opera broadcast on RTÉ One for 18 years between September 1983 and May 2001. ''Glenroe was'' centred on the lives of the people living in the fictional rural village of the same name in County Wicklow. The real-life village of Kilcoole was used to film the series. The series was also filmed in studio at RTÉ and in various other locations when directors saw fit. The show was a spin-off from ''Bracken'' — an RTÉ drama that was broadcast from 1980-1982, which was itself spun off from '' The Riordans'' — another RTÉ drama that was broadcast from 1965-1979. ''Glenroe'' was broadcast, generally from September to May, each Sunday at 8:30 pm.
