Bow Down To Washington
"Bow Down to Washington" is the official fight song of the University of Washington. It was written by Lester J. Wilson in 1915 while partaking in a competition requesting a new song for the university. The competition was sponsored by the campus newspaper, The Daily, and had a grand prize of US$25 (the equivalent of $655 in 2021). "Bow Down to Washington" was first used as a fight song at the Washington-California football game on November 6, 1915, in a 72–0 away victory. The lyrics were first published one week later in the home program for the November 13, 1915 contest, again versus California. The 1915 Washington football team was an American football team that represented the University of Washington during the 1915 college football season. In its eighth season under coach Gil Dobie, the team compiled a 7–0 record, shut out five of seven opponents, and outscored all opponents by a combined total of 274 to 14. Ray Hunt was the team captain. Washington did not play Washington State, Oregon, or Oregon Agricultural this season. Play in the Pacific Coast Conference began the following year. University Of Washington Husky Marching Band
The University of Washington Husky Marching Band (Husky Band, or HMB) is the marching band of the University of Washington. A 240-member ensemble, HMB is one of the few bands outside the Big Ten Conference to use the traditional chair step style of marching. The HMB is a year-round ensemble that actively participates in supporting all Husky sports. Members participate during the fall to help support Husky Football at all home football games and selected away games. The 2019 season will be the 90th for the HMB. The Husky Band, under the direction of Bill Bissell, is credited with the invention of the Wave in 1981. Volleyball
Volleyball is a team sport in which two teams of six players are separated by a net. Each team tries to score points by grounding a ball on the other team's court under organized rules. It has been a part of the official program of the Summer Olympic Games since Tokyo 1964. Beach volleyball was introduced to the programme at the Atlanta 1996. The adapted version of volleyball at the Summer Paralympic Games is sitting volleyball. Denny Field is located on the campus of the University of Washington in Seattle. It was the home grounds for the university's football team for a quarter-century, from 1895 until 1920. Washington compiled an overall home record of 87 wins, 15 losses, and 13 ties () on the field including an NCAA record 59–0–4 winning streak from 1907 to 1917. On Saturday, November 6, 1920, the final game at Denny Field was played, a 3–0 loss to Stanford; the only scoring was a drop-kicked field goal in the second quarter.
