Bovee, South Dakota
Bovee is an unincorporated community in Charles Mix County, in the U.S. state of South Dakota. History A community here was settled around 1913. It was built to serve as a trading hub along a branch line of the Milwaukee Road for farmers in Rhoda Township. The town faded away in the 1920s after Highway 45, later signed Highway 43, and present day SD 50 South Dakota Highway 50 (SD 50) is a state route serving south central and southeast South Dakota. The current alignment begins at the junction of South Dakota Highway 34 at "Lee's Corner" east of Fort Thompson, and ends at the Iowa border ..., bypassed the town to bring farmers to market in Geddes and Platte. A post office called Bovee was established in 1916, and remained in operation until 1955. The community has the name of Myndert Bovee, a pioneer settler. Christian Nestell Bovee (February 22, 1820 – January 18, 1904) was an epigrammatic New York City writer.Thomas William Herringshaw, ''Herringshaw's Encyclopedia of American Biography of the Nineteenth Century'' (1898), p. 132. Biography Christian Nestell Bovee was born in New York on February 22, 1820. Bovee wrote two books that were widely quoted in contemporaneous compilations, these being ''Intuitions and Summaries of Thought'' and ''Thoughts, Feelings and Fancies''.''The Publishers Weekly'' (January 23, 1904 o. 1669, Volume 65, Part 1, Page 111.
