Bourgogne des Flandres is a Belgian beer brewed by Timmermans Brewery in Itterbeek in the municipality of Dilbeek which is located in Flemish Brabant. History Bourgogne des Flandres has existed since 1911. It was then brewed by Van Houtryve Family. In 1957, it was produced by the Verhaeghe Brewery which would produce later on the Duchesse de Bourgogne. Since the early 1990s, Bourgogne des Flandres has been brewed by the Timmermans Brewery which is a part of John Martin Brewery group. Beers * Bourgogne des Flandres Brune is a ''special'' type of ''brown beer'' formed by mixed fermentation combining a selection of mixed lambic (spontaneous fermentation) and a brown beer of high fermentation and aged in oak barrels. Itterbeek
Itterbeek is a historical village in the province of Flemish Brabant, Belgium, and since 1977 a submunicipality of Dilbeek. Toponymy The village derives its name from the Indo-European words 'eud-' (water) en 'baki' (stream). One of the first mentions dates back to the 12th century, as ''Itrebecche''. In 1176 the village was mentioned as ''Itterbecca''. History Itterbeek used to be part of the allodium of Sint-Pieters-Leeuw. During the 9th century, it became subject to the chapter of Cologne. Itterbeek gained some importance in the 13th century when the area, despite the presence of vassals of the family van der Aa, came under the power of Gaasbeek and formed the so-called Nieuw Land van Gaasbeek together with Dilbeek and Sint-Martens-Bodegem. Dilbeek () is a municipality in the province of Flemish Brabant, in the Flemish region of Belgium. The municipality comprises the villages of Dilbeek proper, Groot-Bijgaarden, Itterbeek (with Sint-Anna-Pede), Schepdaal (with Sint-Gertrudis-Pede), Sint-Martens-Bodegem, and Sint-Ulriks-Kapelle. Duchesse De Bourgogne (beer)
Duchesse de Bourgogne () is a Flanders red ale-style beer produced by Brouwerij Verhaeghe in Vichte, Belgium. After a primary and secondary fermentation, this ale is matured in oak barrels for 18 months. The final product is a blend of a younger 8-month-old beer with an 18-month-old beer. The name of the beer is meant to honour Duchess Mary of Burgundy, the only daughter of Charles the Bold. She was born in Brussels in 1457, and died in a horse riding accident. John Martin Brewery
John Martin is the name of a beer brewery in Genval (Walloon Brabant), Belgium, founded in 1909 by English businessman John Martin (1886-1966). A family company, it is currently run by his grandson, Anthony Martin. The Superior Taste Award is an annual non-competitive prize open to any consumer food or drink product, subject to payment of an entry fee of Euro 750-1650.
