Bookworm (film)
''Bookworm'' is a 2024 New Zealand adventure comedy drama film directed by Ant Timpson, based on a screenplay by Toby Harvard. The film is about a young girl named Mildred embarking on an adventure with her estranged American father Strawn Wise to seek out the mythical Canterbury panther. ''Bookworm'' stars Elijah Wood and Nell Fisher. The film had its world premiere at the 28th Fantasia International Film Festival on 18 July 2024. It was released in New Zealand on 8 August 2024. Plot Mildred is a bookish 11-year-old girl who lives with her mother in New Zealand and is interested in the Canterbury panther. One night, an exploding toaster puts her mother into a coma. Mildred's magician father Strawn arrives from the United States, but Mildred is upset with him for his absence from her life and is unimpressed by his magic tricks. Ant Timpson
Ant Timpson (born 21 April 1966) is a New Zealand film producer best known for producing ''The ABCs of Death'' series, ''Turbo Kid'', ''Deathgasm'' and ''The Greasy Strangler''. He founded and hosts the 48Hours film contest. Career In 2003, Timpson founded the annual 48Hours film challenge, a New Zealand-based competition where teams of filmmakers create a short film in 48 hours. Taika Waititi and Te Radar won in the festival's first year. The film ''Turbo Kid'' originated as a submission for the "T" segment in '' ABCs of Death''. Though not selected, Timpson was impressed and approached the filmmakers to expand it into a feature. Timpson got Elijah Wood and his production company, SpectreVision, involved in producing ''The Greasy Strangler''. In 2016, he won the British Independent Film Awards Discovery Award. ''Come to Daddy'' is a 2019 black comedy thriller film directed by Ant Timpson and written by Toby Harvard. Plot Norval Greenwood (Elijah Wood), a privileged musician who lives with his mother in a Beverly Hills mansion, receives a letter from his estranged father asking him to come and visit him. Norval, who has not seen his father since he was five years old, makes the trek to a secluded cabin overlooking the coast in Oregon. His father, Brian, is initially welcoming to him, but Norval's admission of a suicide attempt seems to anger Brian, who soon begins to display aggressive tendencies, taunting and insulting Norval, and even threatening him with physical violence. All this comes to a head one afternoon when Brian attacks Norval with a meat cleaver, but in the ensuing struggle, Brian has a heart attack and immediately dies. Metacritic is a website that aggregates reviews of films, TV shows, music albums, video games and formerly, books. For each product, the scores from each review are averaged (a weighted average). Metacritic was created by Jason Dietz, Marc Doyle, and Julie Doyle Roberts in 1999. The site provides an excerpt from each review and hyperlinks to its source. A color of green, yellow or red summarizes the critics' recommendations. It is regarded as the foremost online review aggregation site for the video game industry. Metacritic's scoring converts each review into a percentage, either mathematically from the mark given, or what the site decides subjectively from a qualitative review. Rotten Tomatoes is an American review-aggregation website for film and television. The company was launched in August 1998 by three undergraduate students at the University of California, Berkeley: Senh Duong, Patrick Y. Lee, and Stephen Wang. Although the name "Rotten Tomatoes" connects to the practice of audiences throwing rotten tomatoes in disapproval of a poor stage performance, the original inspiration comes from a scene featuring tomatoes in the Canadian film '' Léolo'' (1992). The 2024 edition of the Cinéfest Sudbury International Film Festival, the 36th edition in the event's history, will be held from September 14 to 22, 2024 in Sudbury, Ontario. MacKenzie Basin
The Mackenzie Basin (), popularly and traditionally known as the Mackenzie Country, is an elliptical intermontane basin located in the Mackenzie and Waitaki Districts, near the centre of the South Island of New Zealand. It is the largest such basin in New Zealand. Historically famous mainly for sheep farming, the sparsely populated area is now also a popular tourism destination. The basin was named in the 1850s by and after James Mckenzie (or in his native gd, Seumas MacCoinnich), a shepherd and would-be farmer of Scottish origin. Mckenzie was captured for allegedly stealing sheep; he herded his flocks in what was then an area almost totally empty of any human habitation, though Māori previously lived there intermittently.
