Bond's
Bond Clothing Stores, Bond Clothes, Bond Clothiers, or Bond Stores, was a men's clothing manufacturing company and retailer. The company catered to the middle-class consumer. History The company was founded in Cleveland, Ohio in 1914, when Mortimer Slater, with Charles Anson Bond and Lester Cohen, founded the stores as a retail outlet for their suit manufacturing company. Charles Anson Bond, whose name was chosen for its market value and meaning left Cleveland for Columbus, Ohio where he opened a branch of the company. Bond stepped away from active management when he was elected mayor of Columbus in 1907. The first store featured fifteen-dollar men's suits. As president, Slater built the concern into a million-dollar corporation, increasing the number of employees from 50 to more than 4,000. Charles Anson Bond
Charles Anson Bond (February 3, 1873 – January 5, 1943) was the List of mayors of Columbus, Ohio, 37th mayor of Columbus, Ohio, USA, and the 34th person to hold that office. Career Bond was elected on November 5, 1907, and served one term. The campaign was one of the dirtiest in Columbus history and, two weeks after winning the election, Bond's wife Blanche Hull Bond died in childbirth. As a result, he was at a disadvantage when he took the oath of office and only mounted a half-hearted re-election campaign in 1909, when he was defeated by George Sidney Marshall, George S. Marshall. Following the 1909 election, Bond relocated his family to Cleveland, Ohio, and co-founded Bond Clothing Stores. Valley Plaza
Valley Plaza was a shopping center in North Hollywood, Los Angeles, one of the first in the San Fernando Valley, opened in 1951. In the mid-1950s it claimed to be the largest shopping center on the West Coast of the United States and the third-largest in the country. It was located along Laurel Canyon Boulevard from Oxnard to Vanowen, and west along Victory Boulevard. Like its competitor Panorama City Shopping Center to the north, Valley Plaza started with one core development and grew over time to market, under the single name "Valley Plaza", a collection of adjacent retail developments with multiple developers, owners, and opening dates. The El Monte Shopping Center was a major shopping center, for decades the largest shopping center in El Monte, California, at 400 Peck Road just north of the San Bernardino Freeway. It opened in phases in 1958 and 1959 and was initially anchored by a Sears plus its automotive center as well as a Food Giant supermarket, a F. W. Woolworth five and dime, and a Bond's clothing store. Bond International Casino
Bond International Casino (sometimes called "Bond's") was a nightclub and music venue located on the east side of Broadway between 44th and 45th Streets near Times Square, New York City. The venue operated as the International Casino in the 1930s, a popular dinner club (not a gambling house). The club closed by 1940, the vacant location later converted to Bond Clothes, a men's clothing emporium. Starting in 1980, the location again operated as a nightclub, merging the names of the two previous businesses as Bond International Casino. The new venue had a capacity of 1,800 people. Whittier Boulevard
Whittier Boulevard known as Stephenson Avenue (before 1920) is an arterial street that runs from the Los Angeles River (where it continues into Downtown Los Angeles as 6th Street) to Brea, California. The street is one of the main thoroughfares in both Whittier and East Los Angeles. At various times, portions of Whittier Boulevard carried the designation of U.S. Route 101.
