Simón Bolívar (1783–1830) was the Venezuelan leader of independence movements in several South American countries, and the namesake of the country Bolivia. The surname Bolívar is of Basque language, Basque origin, deriving from the village of Ziortza-Bolibar, Bolibar in Spanish Biscay. The name comes from the Basque language, Basque ''bolu'' ("windmill") and ''ibar'' ("valley"). Simón Bolívar
Simón José Antonio de la Santísima Trinidad Bolívar y Palacios (24July 178317December 1830) was a Venezuelan statesman and military officer who led what are currently the countries of Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador, Peru, Panama, and Bolivia to independence from the Spanish Empire. He is known colloquially as ''El Libertador'', or the ''Liberator of America''. Simón Bolívar was born in Caracas in the Captaincy General of Venezuela into a wealthy family of American-born Spaniards (Criollo people, criollo) but lost both parents as a child. Bolívar was educated abroad and lived in Spain, as was common for men of upper-class families in his day. While living in Madrid from 1800 to 1802, he was introduced to Enlightenment philosophy and married María Teresa Rodríguez del Toro y Alaysa, who died in Venezuela from yellow fever in 1803. Bolívar Canton is a canton of Ecuador, located in Carchi Province. Its capital is the town of Bolívar. Its population at the 2001 census was 13,898 and in 2010 was 14,347. Bolivar is located in the Andes and the town of Bolivar has an elevation of above sea level. Bolívar Department
Bolívar () is a department of Colombia. It was named after one of the original nine states of the United States of Colombia. It is located to the north of the country, extending roughly north–south from the Caribbean coast at Cartagena near the mouth of the Magdalena River, then south along the river to a border with Antioquia Department. The departments of Sucre and Córdoba are located to the west, and Atlántico Department to the north and east (most of the border formed by the Canal del Dique). Bolivar is an outer northern suburb of Adelaide, South Australia. It is located in the City of Salisbury. History ''Bolivar'' was a barque built in 1826 in Monmouth by shipbuilder William Lambert. Measuring 108 feet 6 inches in length, 28 feet 2 inches in beam, and 19 feet 10 inches in depth, the vessel had a tonnage of 386, and was registered in London under the ownership of Fenwick.
