Bobby Smith (running Back)
Robert Lee Smith (born May 18, 1942) is an American former professional football player who was a halfback in the American Football League (AFL) and National Football League (NFL). After playing college football for the North Texas Mean Green, he was selected in 1964 by both the AFL's Buffalo Bills and the NFL's Pittsburgh Steelers. He chose to play for the Bills, and in his rookie season he averaged 4.9 yards per attempt. Billy Shaw
William Lewis Shaw (December 15, 1938 – October 4, 2024) was an American professional football player who was a guard for the Buffalo Bills in the American Football League (AFL). After playing college football for the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, he was selected by the Bills in the second round of the 1961 AFL draft. Shaw was the prototypical " pulling guard" who despite his size held his own against much bigger defensive linemen like Ernie Ladd, Earl Faison and Buck Buchanan. He won three straight Eastern Division titles and two AFL championships in 1964 and 1965 with Buffalo. Shaw was a first-team All-AFL selection five times (1962–1966) and second-team All-AFL in 1968 and 1969. He played in eight AFL All-Star Games and was named to the All-Time All-AFL Team. 1966 NFL Season
The 1966 NFL season was the 47th regular season of the National Football League, and the first season in which the Super Bowl was played, though it was called the AFL-NFL World Championship Game. The league expanded to 15 teams with the addition of the Atlanta Falcons, making a bye necessary one week for each team. This was the last season that the NFL was divided only into two separate divisions, and only one postseason round was played, that being between the two division champions. The season concluded with the first AFL-NFL World Championship Game; the NFL champion Green Bay Packers defeated the AFL's Kansas City Chiefs at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum on January 15, 1967. 1965 AFL Season
The 1965 AFL season was the sixth regular season of the American Football League. The season also saw a change of television address as the games moved from ABC to NBC. The season ended when the Buffalo Bills defeated the San Diego Chargers in the AFL Championship game. The next season, the AFL would join the NFL to form the AFL-NFL World Championship game, known today as the Super Bowl. Division races The AFL had 8 teams, grouped into two divisions. Each team would play a home-and-away game against the other 7 teams in the league for a total of 14 games, and the best team in the Eastern Division would play against the best in the Western Division in a championship game. If there was a tie in the standings at top of either division, a one-game playoff would be held to determine the division winner. There was little drama in either of the AFL's division races in 1965.
