Professor Bob Cryan, CBE DL CCMI FREng FIET (born 7 January 1964) is a British Chartered Engineer anChartered Managerand has been the Vice-Chancellor and CEO of thUniversity of Huddersfieldsince 2007 and is the current President of the Institution of Engineering and Technolog Early life Cryan was born on the 7 January 1964 in Huddersfield, England. His parents were working class and neither had the opportunity to complete secondary education so they encouraged him to go as far as he was able. He was not entered for the 11+ examination and attended Deighton Secondary School, Huddersfield, an area of significant multiple deprivation and he describes his childhood as poor in money but rich in friendship and love. In the United Kingdom, a Chartered Engineer (CEng) is an engineer registered with the UK's regulatory body for the engineering profession, the Engineering Council. Chartered Engineers are degree-qualified or can demonstrate equivalent work-based learning and have gained the appropriate professional competencies through education and working experience. Huddersfield New College is a former grammar school and current sixth form college located in Salendine Nook on the outskirts of Huddersfield, in the county of West Yorkshire, England.
