A chamber of commerce, or board of trade, is a form of business network. For example, a local organization of businesses whose goal is to further the interests of businesses. Business owners in towns and cities form these local societies to advocate on behalf of the business community. Local businesses are members, and they elect a board of directors or executive council to set policy for the chamber. The board or council then hires a President, CEO, or Executive Director, plus staffing appropriate to size, to run the organization. A chamber of commerce may be a voluntary or a mandatory association of business firms belonging to different trades and industries. They serve as spokespeople and representatives of a business community. They differ from country to country. The office of Vice-President of the Board of Trade is a junior ministerial position in the government of the United Kingdom at the Board of Trade. The office was created in 1786 but fell into abeyance in 1867. From 1848 onwards, the office was held concurrently with that of Paymaster-General. The office of Vice-President itself was effectively succeeded by that of Parliamentary Secretary to the Board of Trade but the role is extant. Notable holders of the office of Vice-President include Lord Grenville, William Gladstone, Lord Goderich and the Earl Granville. In 2020, there was an unusual appointment of a Deputy President of the Board of Trade to assist the President, but the holder remained only an adviser to the Board. The Kansas City Board of Trade (KCBT), was an American commodity futures and options exchange regulated by the Commodity Futures Trading Commission. Specializing in the hard-red winter wheat contract, it was located at 4800 Main Street in Kansas City, Missouri. On October 17, 2012, CME Group announced it would acquire the exchange for $126 million in cash. Under the terms, the Kansas City trading floor remained open for at least six months. KCBT market participants were to advise CME for at least three years. The trading floor was consolidated with the Chicago operations in June 2013 and ceased operation in Chicago on July 2, 2015. The Chicago Board of Trade Battery was an artillery battery that served in the Union Army during the American Civil War. Service The Chicago Board of Trade Battery was mustered into service at Chicago, Illinois, on August 1, 1862. It was sponsored by the Chicago Board of Trade, from which the battery took its name. In March 1863, the battery changed from mounted field artillery to "flying" horse artillery, the only battery of flying artillery in the Union Western armies. The battery was mustered out on June 30, 1865, in Chicago. The Chicago Board of Trade Building is a 44-story, Art Deco skyscraper located in the Chicago Loop, standing at the foot of the LaSalle Street canyon. Built in 1930 for the Chicago Board of Trade (CBOT), it has served as the primary trading venue of the CBOT and later the CME Group, formed in 2007 by the merger of the CBOT and the Chicago Mercantile Exchange. In 2012, the CME Group sold the CBOT Building to a consortium of real estate investors, including GlenStar Properties LLC and USAA Real Estate Company. The CBOT has been located at the site since 1885. A building designed by William W. Boyington stood at the location , being the tallest building in Chicago from its construction until its clock tower was removed in 1895. The Parliamentary Secretary to the Board of Trade in the United Kingdom was a member of Parliament assigned to assist the Board of Trade and its President with administration and liaison with Parliament.
