Blazing The Overland Trail
''Blazing the Overland Trail'' is a 1956 American western serial film directed by Spencer Gordon Bennet and starring Lee Roberts. It was the 57th and last serial produced by Columbia Pictures, and the last American serial ever produced for theaters. Universal Pictures had disbanded its serial unit in 1946 with '' The Mysterious Mr. M'', and Republic Pictures had ceased serial production in 1955 with '' King of the Carnival''. Plot Rance Devlin intends to build his own empire in the American West, using his gang of masked horsemen "the Black Raiders" and his alliance with savage Indians to do so. Only U.S. Army scout Tom Bridger, allied with Pony Express rider Ed Marr and U.S. Army cavalry Captain Frank Carter, can stop him. Spencer Gordon Bennet
Spencer Gordon Bennet (January 5, 1893 – October 8, 1987) was an American film producer and director. Known as the "King of Serial Directors", he directed more film serials than any other director. Biography Born in Brooklyn, New York, Bennet first entered show business as a stunt man, when he answered a newspaper ad to jump from the Palisades of the Hudson River while wearing a suit for the serial film ''Hurricane Hutch'' (1921). The gig at that time paid $1 per foot he had to fall. He made his directorial debut in 1921's ''Behold the Man'' but made his serial directorial debut in 1925 with ''Sunken Silver''. He would keep making serials, as well as B-Western features, until the very end of the genre, directing the last two serials made in the United States, ''Blazing the Overland Trail'' (1956) and ''Perils of the Wilderness'' (1956). Gregg Barton (Born Harold Wilson Barker, June 5, 1912 – November 28, 2000 ) was an American actor, who played various roles in feature films and television series. Career Born in Oswego, New York, Barton is possibly best remembered for having played the role of Stan Richter in the syndicated television series '' The Gene Autry Show''. ''White Eagle'' (1941) is the eighth serial released by Columbia Pictures, starring Buck Jones. It was based on the 1932 Buck Jones Western film (also called '' White Eagle (1932 film)''). Plot White Eagle, a Pony Express Rider, is the son of a massacred Army officer, who has been raised by an Indian tribe. He believes himself to be the son of the tribal chief and is working to get a peace treaty signed between the Indians and the white settlers. But 'Dandy' Darnell, a notorious and merciless outlaw, tries to keep the fight alive, by sending his henchmen to stir up trouble. This is partly due to his wish to grab hundreds of thousands of acres (hundreds of square kilometers) in the western territories for himself and, also, to incite a war with the Indians along the territory. Al Ferguson
Al Ferguson (19 April 1888 – 4 December 1971) was an Irish-born American film actor. Born in County Wexford, Ireland, he appeared in nearly 300 films between 1912 and 1956. Billed as Smoke Ferguson, by 1912 he was making Westerns for Selig Polyscope Company. In the 1920s he was the star, producer, and director for several low-budget Western films. He also appeared in some television Westerns in the 1950s. Ferguson died in Burbank, California. He is interred at Glendale's Forest Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Kermit Maynard
Kermit Maynard (September 20, 1897 – January 16, 1971) was an American actor and stuntman. He appeared in 280 films between 1927 and 1962. Early years Born in Vevay, Indiana, he was the son of Mr. and Mrs. William Maynard and a lookalike younger brother of actor Ken Maynard; they were frequently assumed to be identical twins. Maynard was a 1916 graduate of Columbus High School in Columbus, Indiana. He graduated with a degree in engineering from Indiana University and played college football as a lineman for the Indiana Hoosiers in the early 1920s. While at the university, he lettered in three sports in one year. After he finished college, Maynard worked as a claims agent for the George H. Hormel Meat Packing Company. Maynard also competed as a rider in rodeo competition. In 1933, he won a Pacific Coast trick-riding championship in the Pendleton Round-Up.
