Black Trans Femmes In The Arts
Black Trans Femmes in the Arts is an American grassroots collective that provides support to Black trans women and Black trans nonbinary femmes in the arts. The organization, founded by Jordyn Jay, is based in New York, New York. History Founded in 2019 while Jordyn Jay was studying for a Masters Degree in art politics at New York University, BTFA aims to connect and uplift Black trans women and Black trans nonbinary femmes who have a mutual interest in the field of art. After noticing a lack of knowledge of Black trans femme art in the art history courses at NYU, Jay began hosting open mic nights and building a social media presence to generate artist talks and performances.that would provide Black trans femme artists with resources to be successful in the arts. A trans woman or a transgender woman is a woman who was assigned male at birth. Trans women have a female gender identity, may experience gender dysphoria, and may Gender transitioning, transition; this process commonly includes Feminizing hormone therapy, hormone replacement therapy and sometimes sex reassignment surgery, which can bring relief and resolve feelings of gender dysphoria. Non-binary Gender

New York University

Ceyenne Doroshow
Ceyenne Doroshow (Park Slope, NY) is an author, activist, and the founder and executive director of G.L.I.T.S., an organization dedicated to creating sustainable housing and healthcare for Black transgender people. Doroshow was described in '' GQ'' as "A Godmother of the Black Trans Lives Matter Movement." The Okra Project
The Okra Project is an American mutual aid collective that provides support to black trans, non-binary, and gender-nonconforming people. The organization is based in New York City. As of January 2023, Gabrielle Inès Souza serves as the Executive Director of the Okra Project. History The Okra Project was founded in January 2018 to combat food insecurity among Black trans people. The organizations beginning mission focused on hiring and training Black trans people as chefs who then would provide meals for fellow community members in the comfort of their homes. At the time, they collaborated with Chef Meliq August, who runs a trans chef service. The provided meals were of African diasporic cuisines. Hood By Air is a high fashion brand based in New York City first launched in 2006 and active to the present day, with the exception of a hiatus between early 2017 – 2019. The brand was co-founded by designers, Shayne Oliver and Raul Lopez.
