The Church of the Province of the Indian Ocean is a province (Anglican), province of the Anglican Communion. It covers the islands of Madagascar, Mauritius and the Seychelles. The Church of the Province of the Indian Ocean is a member of the Global South (Anglican), Global South and the Global Anglican Future Conference, and has been involved in the Anglican realignment. Archbishop James Wong (bishop), James Wong attended Global Anglican Future Conference, GAFCON III, in Jerusalem, on 17–22 June 2018, and GAFCON IV in Kigali, on 17-21 April 2023. James Wong (bishop)
James Richard Wong Yin Song (born 13 January 1960) is a Mauritian-Seychellois Anglican bishop. He was the fourth bishop of The Seychelles from 2009 to 2025 the archbishop and Primate (bishop), primate of the Anglican Province of the Indian Ocean from 2017 to 2024,. Ecclesiastical career Wong was ordained an Anglican priest in 1983. He was afterwards the archdeacon of Mauritius and the Rector (ecclesiastical), rector of St Thomas' Beau Bassin. He was elected the fourth bishop of the Diocese of the Seychelles in 2009. Wong was granted Seychelles citizenship on 11 May 2017. He was elected archbishop of the Province of the Indian Ocean, at the provincial synod, held at St. Andrew's Church, Quatre-Bornes, Mauritius, on 26 August 2017, assuming office the following day. George Briggs (bishop)
George Cardell Briggs (6 September 191015 March 2004) was the first Bishop of The Seychelles. Born in Warrington, Briggs was educated at Worksop College and Sidney Sussex College, Cambridge. After studying at Cuddesdon College he was ordained deacon in 1934 and priest in 1935. He was a curate of St Alban's, Stockport until 1937 when he became a missionary priest in the Diocese of Masabi, Tanzania. In 1939 he became a member of the Oratory of the Good Shepherd. He was the Archdeacon of Newala from 1955 to 1964 and then Rector of St Alban's Dar-es-Salaam until 1969 when he became Warden of St Cyprian's Theological College, Masasi, his last post before ordination to the episcopate. He became Bishop of the Seychelles in 1973. He was created a CMG in 1979. He resigned his See in 1979 and returned to England as Assistant Bishop of Derby; he went to Mauritius the next year. French Chang-Him
French Kitchener Chang-Him OBE (10 May 1938 – 26 May 2023) was a Seychellois Anglican bishop who was active in the second half of the 20th century. Early life and education Born in Seychelles and son of Francis Chang King-Hime and Amelia Zoé, Chang-Him was educated at Lichfield Theological College and Trinity College, Toronto. Career He became a primary school teacher in 1958 and was ordained in 1962. After a curacy in Goole he was the rector of Praslin, then Archdeacon of the Seychelles and finally its Vicar general. In 1979 he was appointed the Bishop of The Seychelles, resigning in 2004; and in 1984 the Archbishop of the Indian Ocean, resigning in 1995. In 1975, Chang-Him married Susan Talma (died 1996). Santosh Marray
Santosh Kumar Marray (born 1957) is the eleventh and current bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Easton. Before this, he served as assistant bishop for both the Diocese of Alabama (2012-2016) and the Diocese of East Carolina (2009-2012). Prior to that, he was Bishop of Seychelles. He was ordained as a priest in 1981, and served in this capacity in Florida, Guyana, and the Bahamas before being consecrated as bishop. Biography Bishop Marray is the third of six children born to the late Gurdat and Chandrawati Marray in Guyana, South America. He was reared as a Hindu, the traditional religion of his parents and ancestors, and converted to Christianity when he was 16 years old while attending a small, rural Anglican church. He earned a B.A. in theology from the University of West Indies, and a diploma in pastoral studies from Codrington College in Barbados.
