William George (American Football)
William J. "Pop" George was an All-American football player at Princeton University. He was a four-year starter at Princeton from 1886 to 1889, during which time the 1886 and 1889 teams won national championships and compiled an overall record of 35-3-2. He was selected as the Center (gridiron football), center on the 1889 College Football All-America Team, first college football All-America team in 1889. He played college football for Princeton until age 28, while enrolled in graduate studies. In the 1889 Princeton-Yale game, George was sustained an injury to his knee cap and "had the tendon of his ankle broken." George was taken from the game to Murray Hill Hotel in an ambulance. In 1920, he was selected to the all-time Princeton football team by Herring of the Princeton Alumni Weekly. References

He served as the head football coach at the United States Coast Guard Academy in New London, Connecticut from 1999 to 2019, compiling a record of 75–126. George (October 27, 1929 – September 30, 1982) was an American professional football linebacker who played for the Chicago Bears and the Los Angeles Rams of the National Football League (NFL). George was born in Waynesburg, Pennsylvania, about 50 miles south of Pittsburgh. He is among numerous legendary football players born in football-rich Western Pennsylvania. William M. George (also known as Bill George) (January 27, 1865 – August 23, 1916) was a professional baseball player for the New York Giants and the Columbus Solons. He played with the Giants from 1887 to 1889, and played one year with the Columbus Solons of the American Association in 1889. Billy George (footballer, Born 1874)
William George (29 June 1874 – 4 December 1933) was a footballer who played for Aston Villa from October 1897 to July 1911. His previous clubs were the now defunct Woolwich Ramblers, Army football for the Royal Artillery and Trowbridge Town when he was on leave. He was signed by Aston Villa from the Army for £50 in 1897. He played in 356 league matches and 40 cup matches. While at Villa Park, George kept goal in three Villa title winning sides in 1899, 1900 and 1910 as well as their 1905 cup winning side. His international career was limited and he had 3 caps with the England team in 1902. He was sold to Birmingham City as a player/trainer in 1911. He is regarded as one of the best goalkeepers to have played for Aston Villa in its history. George also played 13 first-class cricket matches as a batsman with Warwickshire. William James George
William James George CMG (26 January 1853 – 10 March 1931) was an Australian engineer and politician who served in the Legislative Assembly of Western Australia from 1895 to 1902 and from 1909 to 1930. He was a minister in the governments of Frank Wilson, Henry Lefroy, Hal Colebatch, and James Mitchell. Early life George was born in West Bromwich, Staffordshire, England, to Eleanor (née Sheldon) and Henry Wellington George. He studied mechanical engineering at the Birmingham and Midland Institute, and emigrated to Australia in 1884, initially settling in Victoria. George moved to Western Australia in 1891, where he initially managed a timber plantation at Jarrahdale. He later opened a foundry in Perth, and was involved in the construction of the Victoria Dam, as well as the extensions of the Northern Railway to Mullewa and the South Western Railway to Bunbury. In 1894, George was elected to the Perth City Council, serving as a councillor until 1898.

Bill George (c. 1802–1881) was a Victorian era dog dealer and well-known character in London, England. Early life George's first job was as a butcher's boy. A bareknuckle prizefighter, he later became an apprentice to Ben White of 'May Tree Cottage', Kensal New Town, a dealer of Old English Bulldogs, the ancestral breed of Bulldog used for dog fighting and bull-baiting. Kensal New Town was a rough working class area with many Irish immigrants and the scene of Protestant-Catholic conflicts. He was indirectly part of an incident in 1825, sponsored by Sam Wedgbury, who had bought a dog from White, and a menagerie owner called George Wombwell, involving lion-baiting by Bulldogs. George is said to have unsuccessfully attempted to dissuade the participants from continuing in this bloody enterprise. William M. George is an American labor union activist and political leader who served as President of the Pennsylvania AFL–CIO from 1990 to 2010. Early professional career George, originally a steel mill worker, began his career in union activism in 1960, when he joined the United Steelworkers of America Local 1211 in Aliquippa, Pennsylvania.
