Bill McPherson
William McPherson (September 22, 1897 – July 1976) was a Scottish-American soccer wing half. He began his career in Scotland before moving to the American Soccer League. He also spent time in the St. Louis Soccer League, winning a total of five league titles and seven National Challenge Cups during his career. His record of 370 matches in the U.S. top-flight league stood until being broken by Steve Ralston in 2007. Playing career Scotland Born in Greenock, McPherson signed with Morton of the Scottish Football League in 1919. In 1922, he began the season with Beith F.C. before leaving Scotland for the United States. American Soccer League When he arrived, he signed with the Fall River Marksmen of the American Soccer League seeing time in only four games at the end of the 1922-1923 season. Bill McPherson (American Football)
Bill McPherson (October 24, 1931 – March 17, 2020) was an American professional football coach in the National Football League (NFL). He was the San Francisco 49ers defensive coordinator from 1989 to 1993. He was a coach or front office executive in the 49ers organization from 1979 to 2005 and won five Super Bowls. McPherson was most known for his ability to coach the defensive line, serving as coach of that position for Santa Clara University (1963–1974), UCLA (1975–1977), Philadelphia Eagles (1978), and San Francisco 49ers (1979–1991, 1994–1998). While with Santa Clara, he also served as linebackers coach and associate head coach. Bill McPherson (footballer)
William McPherson (22 November 1884 – 1961) was a Scottish footballer who played as an inside forward. McPherson started his career at St Mirren before joining Liverpool in the English Football League in 1906, scoring 11 goals in 32 appearances in his debut season. He played less frequently the following season in 1907–08 making 22 appearances. The season was to be his last at Liverpool and he would later play for Scottish clubs Rangers and Heart of Midlothian. He did not win a major trophy with any of his clubs; he joined Liverpool when they were reigning English champions but they did not challenge for honours during his two-year spell. He appeared in the 1909 Scottish Cup Final for Rangers against Celtic, which went to a second replay only for the trophy to be withdrawn after rioting by spectators who believed the two matches had been drawn deliberately to boost revenues.
