Bill Maher (hurler)
Bill Maher (born 21 January 1994) is an Irish sportsperson. He plays hurling and Gaelic football with his local club Kilsheelan–Kilcash and with the Tipperary senior inter-county team since 2015 and Tipperary senior football team since 2016. Bill made the move to New York in late 2021 and joined up with the Brooklyn Shamrocks GFC club playing under the guidance of Tommy McConvey. Career Maher captained Tipperary to win the 2012 All-Ireland Minor Hurling Championship, defeating Dublin in the final on a 2-18 to 1-11 scoreline. He made his championship debut for the Tipperary hurlers on 21 June 2015 against Limerick in the 2015 Munster Senior Hurling Championship. John Maher (1940 – December 3, 1988) was an American former child alcoholic and heroin addict, who founded the Delancey Street Foundation, a nonprofit organization, in 1971. The organization, based in San Francisco, provides residential rehabilitation services and vocational training for substance abusers and convicted criminals. As co-president of the organization from 1972 to 1984, Maher rose to national prominence as the subject of two books (''John Maher of Delancey Street'' by Grover Sales and ''Sane Asylum; Inside the Delancey Street Foundation'' by Charles Hampden-Turner), a TV movie (1975's ''Delancey Street: The Crisis Within''), and news media coverage (including a 1974 ''60 Minutes'' segment, "Love Thy Neighbor"). William Maher (hurler)
William Maher (born 1979) is an Irish retired hurler, and current manager and coach. Maher is a former manager of the Tipperary under-21 hurling team from November 2015 until July 2017. Born in Ballingarry, County Tipperary, Maher first played competitive hurling whilst at school in St. Kieran's College. He arrived on the inter-county scene at the age of seventeen when he first linked up with the Tipperary minor team, before later lining out with the under-21 side. He played a number of games at senior level during the National Hurling League, until an eye injury ended his career in 2002. At club level Maher played with Ballingarry. In retirement from playing Maher became involved in team management and coaching.
