Broderick Crawford
William Broderick Crawford (December 9, 1911 – April 26, 1986) was an American actor. He is best known for his portrayal of Willie Stark in the film ''All the King's Men'' (1949), which earned him an Academy Award and a Golden Globe Award. Often cast in tough-guy or slob roles, he later achieved recognition for his starring role as Dan Mathews in the crime television series ''Highway Patrol'' (1955–1959). Early life Crawford was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to Lester Crawford ( Lester Crawford Pendergast) and Helen Broderick, who were both vaudeville performers, as his grandparents had been. Lester appeared in films in the 1920s and 1930s. William Crawford (trade Unionist)
William Crawford (1833 – 1 July 1890) was an English miner, trade unionist, and a Liberal politician. Crawford was born at Cullercoats Northumberland and worked in Hartley Coal Mines from the age of 10. In 1862 he actively opposed the attempt of the Northumberland mine owners to impose the system of yearly hiring. He became Secretary of the Durham Miners' Association in 1863, and spoke frequently at the Durham Miner's Gala He was briefly secretary of the breakaway Northumberland Miners' Mutual Confident Association. In 1885 Crawford was elected Member of Parliament for Mid Durham and held the seat until his death aged 57. From 1889 to 1890 he was a member of the Institute of Mining Engineers. William Crawford ARSA (1822–1869) was a Scottish portrait and genre painter. Life He was born on 9 August 1822 in Ayr the second son of the auctioneer and poet Archibald Crawfurd (sic) and his wife Catherine Craig. His father placed him at the Trustees' Academy in Edinburgh, under Sir William Allan, where he gained a travelling bursary, which enabled him to study in Rome for about two years. On his return he conducted the drawing classes of the Trustees' Academy for several years, and also occasionally contributed art criticisms to Edinburgh newspapers. He was very successful and in 1850 is listed as a "portrait painter" living at a huge Georgian townhouse at 46 Great King Street in Edinburgh's Second New town. William Crawford (1784 – February 28, 1849) was a United States district judge of the United States District Court for the Middle District of Alabama, the United States District Court for the Northern District of Alabama and the United States District Court for the Southern District of Alabama. William Randall Crawford (November 11, 1864 – September 6, 1933) was an American football player and coach, lawyer, and railroad executive. He played college football at Yale University and served as the head football coach at Butler University from 1890 to 1891 and the University of Wisconsin—now known as the University of Wisconsin–Madison—in 1892.
