Big Shot (amusement Ride)
Big Shot (Formerly known as Space Shot) is a pneumatically powered tower ride. It was the world's highest amusement ride in terms of overall elevation above ground level, but has since been surpassed by the Sky Drop ride atop the Canton Tower in Guangzhou. The tower is built atop the high deck of The Strat in Las Vegas, Nevada. History The ride opened on April 29, 1996, in a special VIP gala opening, one day before the ride and casino opened to the general public. Big Shot was one of the first two amusement rides to open on the Stratosphere tower at the casino opening (the other being High Roller). X-Scream
X-Scream is a ride at the top of the Strat SkyPod in Las Vegas, Nevada. At a height of approximately , the world's third highest amusement ride, located on top of The Strat. The name of the ride is a play on the word ''extreme''. Ride experience X-Scream consists of a straight piece of track similar to that of a conventional roller coaster, which carries a single open-top car. Riders are secured by lap bar restraints. The trackway pivots vertically in a see-saw motion, letting the car roll backward and forward along the length. The ride car is allowed to roll quickly forward to the end of the track, past the edge of the building, before braking sharply. The rolling back and forth of the car and the rocking of the track is programmed to take the rider by surprise and feel like they are at risk of falling from the precipice of the building. SkyJump Las Vegas is a commercial decelerator located at The Strat on the Las Vegas Strip. It holds the Guinness World Record for highest commercial decelerator descent with an official height of . As part of its grand opening event, Las Vegas Mayor Oscar Goodman presented a written proclamation deeming April 20, 2010 as SkyJump Day in Las Vegas. Ride experience SkyJump Las Vegas is a controlled decelerator descent. Riders of SkyJump Las Vegas are given a short safety lesson and suited up in a The Strat custom “jump suit”. The rider is then connected to a patented highspeed “descender” machine and led to the edge of a small platform where they will leap out and descend the Strat SkyPod. Insanity is an inactive thrill ride located 900 ft (270m) above ground at the top of The Strat in Las Vegas, Nevada that opened in 2005. As of March 2023, Insanity is closed until further notice, and has been removed from the list of thrill rides at the resort. Ride experience Riders are seated under a large mechanical arm, secured by lap bar restraints. The arm dangles the seats over the edge of the tower, tilts them 70 degrees facing down, and spins them at 40 mph. 2005 incident Shortly after opening in 2005, riders were stranded several hundred feet in the air for nearly an hour and a half when Insanity shut down; it was programmed to cease operation if a fault or problem was detected by the ride's control system. The Strat (formerly the Stratosphere) is a hotel and casino in Las Vegas, Nevada, United States. It includes a observation tower, the tallest in the United States. A drop tower is a type of amusement park ride incorporating a central tower structure with one or more gondolas attached. In a typical modern configuration, each gondola carrying riders is lifted to the top of the tower and then released to free fall back down to ground level.
