The Johnnie Walker Australian Classic was a golf tournament held in Australia from 1988 to 1992. It was first played as the Bicentennial Classic to celebrate the Australian Bicentenary. From 1989 it was sponsored by United Distillers, using their Johnnie Walker Scotch whisky brand, and officially titled as the Johnnie Walker Australian Classic, and then the Johnnie Walker Classic from 1991. It was held at the Royal Melbourne Golf Club, Melbourne, except in 1991 when it was played at The Lakes Golf Club. Prize money was A$1,500,000 in 1988, A$1,000,000 from 1989 to 1991, and A$700,000 in 1992. The tournament was played for the final time in 1992 as a result of United Distillers United Distillers was a Scottish company formed in 1987 from combining the businesses of Distillers Company and Arthur Bell & Sons, both owned by Guinness. The Johnnie Walker Classic was a European Tour golf tournament which was played in the Asia-Pacific region. Johnnie Walker is a brand name and the owners have a long history of tournament sponsorship. They also sponsored the Johnnie Walker Championship at Gleneagles which was a European Tour event played in Scotland. The event was originally called the Johnnie Walker Asian Classic. Greg Turner
Gregory James Turner (born 21 February 1963) is a New Zealand professional golfer. Early life and amateur career Turner was born in Dunedin and attended the University of Oklahoma in the United States on a golf scholarship. Professional career Turner spent most of his career on the PGA Tour of Australasia and the European Tour. Turner won four tournaments on the European Tour and achieved a career best ranking of 18th on the European Tour Order of Merit in 1997. Frank Nobilo
Frank Ivan Joseph Nobilo (born 14 May 1960) is a New Zealand former professional golfer. Nobilo had a successful playing career, winning 14 pro tournaments around the world. He was at his peak during the mid-1990s when he also produced strong finishes in all four major championships. Since his 2003 retirement, Nobilo has worked as a television announcer for golf events. Personal life Nobilo was born in Auckland, of Italian and Croatian descent, and is the great-grandson of an Italian pirate. At birth, his right leg was shorter than his left, causing him ongoing back problems. Peter Albert Charles Senior (born 31 July 1959) is an Australian professional golfer who has won more than twenty tournaments around the world. Senior has competed mainly on the PGA Tour of Australasia, where he has had the most success and won the Order of Merit on four occasions, and the European Tour. He has also played occasionally on the Japan Golf Tour and the United States–based PGA Tour.
