Biathlon At The 2022 Winter Olympics – Women's Pursuit
The Women's pursuit competition of the Beijing 2022 Olympics was held on 13 February, at the National Biathlon Centre, in the Zhangjiakou cluster of competition venues, north of Beijing, at an elevation of . Marte Olsbu Røiseland of Norway won the event. Elvira Öberg of Sweden won the silver medal, and Tiril Eckhoff of Norway the bronze. Summary The 2018 champion, Laura Dahlmeier, and the silver medalist, Anastasiya Kuzmina, retired from competitions. The 2018 bronze medalist, Anaïs Bescond, qualified for the Olympics, but in the 2021–22 Biathlon World Cup ranking before the Olympics she was tenth. The overall leader of the 2021–22 Biathlon World Cup before the Olympics, as well as the leader in the pursuit, was Olsbu Røiseland. Biathlon
The biathlon is a winter sport that combines cross-country skiing and rifle shooting. Monika Hojnisz-Staręga
Monika Hojnisz (born 27 August 1991), now Monika Hojnisz-Staręga, is a Polish biathlete. She competes in the Biathlon World Cup. Hojnisz won a bronze medal at the Biathlon World Championships 2013 (12.5 km mass start). In December 2018 she scored her best World Cup finish, taking second place in the 15 km individual at the Pokljuka round of the World Cup. She finished sixth in the 15 km individual at the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang. She married Polish cross-county skier Maciej Staręga in June 2019. Katharina Komatz ( Innerhofer, born 17 January 1991) is an Austrian biathlete. She competed at the Biathlon World Championships 2012 and 2013, and at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi. On 6 March 2014, Innerhofer won her first World Cup event by finishing first in a sprint competition in Pokljuka. Before this victory, her best result in the World Cup was 22nd place in an individual race in Ruhpolding. It was also a first-ever victory in the World Cup for an Austrian female biathlete. Vanessa Hinz (born 24 March 1992) is a former German biathlete and cross-country skier. Hinz started in her first world cup races at the end of the 2012/13-season. At the 2013 European Championships she won a gold medal with the German relay team. In 2014, she participated in the Winter Olympics in Sochi. She was officially nominated by the DOSB on 23 January 2014, but not taken with the team to Russia. So she had to wait at home as stand-by reserve. Dzinara Smolskaya ( Dzinara Talhatauna Alimbekava, , born 5 January 1996) is a Kazakhstan-born Belarusian biathlete. She won a gold medal in the 4×6 km relay at the 2018 Olympics. Alimbekava won her first IBU World Cup competition (a sprint) in Hochfilzen, Austria, in December 2020, and finished as the Under-25 Cup leader for the 2020-21 World Cup season. Alimbekava was born in Kazakhstan to a Kazakh father and a Belarusian mother. When she was three years old, her family moved to Belarus, where her younger brother Zhenya was born. Dzinara is professionally trained in piano and skates and practices snowboarding in her free time. Hanna Öberg
Hanna Öberg (born 2 November 1995) is a Swedish biathlete who is double Olympic champion and three-time world champion. She is the elder sister of fellow biathlete Elvira Öberg. Career In 2017 she won the IBU Female Rookie of the Year Award for her World Cup debut season, with the male counterpart being awarded to her fellow Swede Sebastian Samuelsson. At the Pyeongchang 2018 Winter Olympics she won a surprising gold in the Individual, after four clean shootings. Denise Herrmann-Wick (née Herrmann, born 20 December 1988) is a former German biathlete and cross-country skier. Alina Stremous (born 11 July 1995) is a Russian-born Moldovan biathlete who competed at the 2022 Winter Olympics. She won the 10 km pursuit event at the 2022 IBU Open European Championships. Personal life Stremous was born in Kotelnikovo, Russia. She studied at State Budgetary Secondary School No. 3, Saint Petersburg. Career Stremous started cross-country skiing in Volgograd, Russia, and later moved to Saint Petersburg. In 2017, she started competing for the St. Petersburg Biathlon Sports Federation. Franziska Preuß (also spelled Preuss, born 11 March 1994) is a German biathlete and the World Cup winner of the 2024–25 season. She made her World Cup debut during the 2013–14 season and represented Germany at the 2014, 2018 and 2022 Winter Olympics. Yuliia Valentynivna Dzhyma (; born 19 September 1990) is a Ukrainian World Cup level biathlete. She is Olympic champion in women's relay, multiple World championships medalist. She is one of the most successful Ukrainian biathletes of the 2010s. Career She took up biathlon in Kyiv, where she lives. She wasn't seen as a promising rising athlete at the beginning of her sporting career. She didn't show promising results in skiing, so trainers were doubtful whether she would be a good biathlete.
