Beyond (Dinosaur Jr. Album)
''Beyond'' is the eighth studio album by the alternative rock band Dinosaur Jr. It was their first LP in a decade after 1997's ''Hand It Over'', and the first album by the original lineup since 1988's '' Bug''. Promotion The band planned a full world tour in 2007 and played "Almost Ready" on the ''Late Show with David Letterman'' to support their album. A music video was made for "Been There All the Time", featuring Sonic Youth front-man Thurston Moore and his daughter, Coco. It was directed by Matt Dillon. Release The album was released through Fat Possum Records in the US and through the Play It Again, Sam label in Europe, Australia, New Zealand and Japan. It was also released in Ukraine through Moon Records. Both Fat Possum and PIAS released limited edition versions of it containing an extra 7 inch with the 2:47 track "Yer Son". Dinosaur Jr
Dinosaur Jr. is an American rock band formed in Amherst, Massachusetts, in 1984. Originally called Dinosaur, the band was forced to change their name because of legal issues. The band was founded by J Mascis (guitar, vocals, primary songwriter), Lou Barlow (bass, vocals), and Murph (drums). After three albums on independent labels, the band earned a reputation as one of the formative influences on American alternative rock. Creative tension led to Mascis firing Barlow, who later formed Sebadoh and Folk Implosion. His replacement, Mike Johnson, came aboard for three major-label albums. Murph eventually quit, with Mascis taking over drums on the band's albums before the group disbanded in 1997. The original lineup reformed in 2005, releasing five albums thereafter. ''Green Mind'' is the fourth studio album by alternative rock band Dinosaur Jr., released in 1991. It was the band's first release after bassist Lou Barlow's departure, as well as the first released by a major label. The record is close to being a J Mascis solo album: he played most of the instruments, with founding drummer Murph only featuring on three tracks (1, 7 and 9). The cover photograph depicting a child smoking a cigarette, ''Priscilla, Jones Beach, 1969'', is by Joseph Szabo and taken from his book of photographs ''Almost Grown''. "Turnip Farm" is also featured in the film ''Reality Bites''. Stephen Thomas Erlewine (; born June 18, 1973) is an American music critic and former senior editor for the online music database AllMusic. He is the author of multiple artist biographies and record reviews for AllMusic, as well as a freelance writer, occasionally contributing liner notes. Erlewine was born in Ann Arbor, Michigan, and is a nephew of the former musician and AllMusic founder Michael Erlewine. For each product, the scores from each review are averaged (a weighted average).
