Bethune–Cookman Wildcats Baseball
The Bethune–Cookman Wildcats baseball team is a varsity intercollegiate athletic team of Bethune–Cookman University in Daytona Beach, Florida, United States. The team is a member of the Southwestern Athletic Conference, which is part of the National Collegiate Athletic Association's Division I. The team plays its home games at Radiology Associates Field at Jackie Robinson Ballpark in Daytona Beach, Florida. Jonathan Hernandez is the team's head coach starting in the 2019 season. History Mervyl Melendez was named the head coach at Bethune-Cookman, leading his alma mater to eleven Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference championships in his twelve seasons. As coach at Bethune-Cookman, Melendez led the team two back-to-back undefeated conference seasons in 2010 and 2011. Jonathan Hernandez (baseball)
Jonathan Damian Hernandez (born July 18, 1985) is an American baseball coach, who is the current head baseball coach of the Bethune–Cookman Wildcats. He was the head coach for the ASA College Silver Storm (2014–2018). Early life Hernandez attended Hialeah High School, where he was a member of the baseball team. He helped guide the team to back-to-back state championships in 2001 and 2002. Coaching career Hernandez spent seasons as an assistant baseball coach at Miami Springs High School and Coral Gables Senior High School before landing his first ever head coaching job with the Hialeah High School. In 2014, Hernandez was named the first ever head coach at ASA College's Miami branch. On August 14, 2018, Hernandez was named the head coach of the Bethune–Cookman Wildcats baseball program. 2000 NCAA Division I Baseball Tournament
The 2000 NCAA Division I baseball tournament was played at the end of the 2000 NCAA Division I baseball season to determine the national champion of college baseball. The tournament concluded with eight teams competing in the College World Series, a double-elimination tournament in its fifty fourth year. Sixteen regional competitions were held to determine the participants in the final event, with each winner advancing to a best of three series against another regional champion for the right to play in the College World Series. The 2008 NCAA Division I baseball tournament was held from May 30 through June 25, 2008 and was part of the 2008 NCAA Division I baseball season. The 64 NCAA Division I college baseball teams were selected out of an eligible 286 teams on May 26, 2008. Thirty teams were awarded an automatic bid as champions of their conference, and 34 teams were selected at-large by the NCAA Division I Baseball Committee. The 2007 NCAA Division I baseball tournament was held from June 1 to 24, . Sixty-four NCAA Division I college baseball teams advanced to the post season tournament after having played through a regular season, and for some, a conference tournament. The 2007 tournament culminated with 8 teams advancing to the College World Series at historic Rosenblatt Stadium in Omaha, Nebraska, on June 15. Unseeded Oregon State repeated as national champions, winning all five of its games in the 2007 CWS. Oregon State went undefeated through the College World Series, posting a 5–0 record.
