''Best of Me'' is a greatest hits album by English reggae vocalist Maxi Priest, released in 1991. The album mostly contains Priest's biggest hit singles up to 1991, including the US ''Billboard'' Hot 100 number one single, " Close to You". The majority of the tracks are from his first four studio albums: ''You're Safe'' (1985), ''Intentions'' (1986), '' Maxi'' (1987) and '' Bonafide'' (1990). Critical reception In a review for AllMusic, Jose F. Promis gave ''Best of Me'' four and a half out of five stars, describing the album as "timeless, breezy, and thoroughly engaging". Promis also described the album package as featuring "great pictures, song lyrics, and detailed liner notes". Maxi Priest
Max Alfred Elliott (born 10 June 1961), known by his stage name Maxi Priest, is a British reggae vocalist of Jamaican descent. He is best known for singing reggae music with an Contemporary R&B, R&B influence, otherwise known as reggae fusion. He was one of the first international artists to have success in this genre, and one of the most successful reggae fusion acts of all time. Early life Maxi Priest was born in Lewisham, London, the second youngest of nine siblings. His parents had moved to England from Jamaica to provide more opportunity for their family and he grew up listening to gospel music, gospel, reggae, Rhythm and blues, R&B, funk and soul music. "Some Guys Have All the Luck" is a song written by Jeff Fortgang. It has been a top 40 hit on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100 twice, as the original by the Persuaders in 1973 reaching No. 39. In 1982, it was covered by Robert Palmer, which was a hit in the UK peaking at No. 16. David Victor Emmanuel (10 February 1963 – 15 March 2011), better known as Smiley Culture, was a British reggae singer and DJ known for his "fast chat" style. During a relatively brief period of fame and success, he produced two of the most critically acclaimed reggae singles of the 1980s. He died on 15 March 2011, aged 48, during a police raid on his home. An inquest found that his death was a suicide. Gary Benson (born Harry Hyams) is an English singer and songwriter. Career Benson spent eight weeks on the UK Singles Chart in 1975 with his own composition, " Don't Throw It All Away". The single, released on the State Records label (State Records STAT10), reached No. 20 on the chart, leading to an appearance on BBC Television's ''Top of the Pops''.
