Best Film Not In The English Language
The BAFTA Award for Best Film Not in the English Language is a film award given annually by the British Academy of Film and Television Arts and presented at the British Academy Film Awards. The award was first given at the 36th British Academy Film Awards, recognising the films of 1982, and until 1990 was known as the Best Foreign Language Film. Prior to this, films recorded in a language other than English were often recognised in the category BAFTA Award for Best Film, known between 1949 and 1969 as Best Film from any Source, also, in the 1980s there were only European films that the language originally recorded spoken in the film is not English, except '' Ran'', between winners and nominees films in this category. British Academy Film Awards
The British Academy Film Awards, more commonly known as the BAFTAs or BAFTA Awards, is an annual film award show hosted by the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) to honour the best British and international contributions to film. The ceremony was first held at the flagship Odeon Cinema in Leicester Square in London, then the Royal Opera House from 2007 to 2016. The event was held at the Royal Albert Hall from 2017 to 2022, before moving to the Royal Festival Hall for 2023. The statue awarded to recipients depicts a theatrical mask. Serge Silberman
Serge Silberman (1 May 1917 – 22 July 2003) was a French film producer known for his collaborations with several major European and Japanese filmmakers, including Luis Buñuel, Akira Kurosawa, Jean-Pierre Melville, René Clément, Jacques Becker, and Nagisa Oshima. Early life Silberman was born in Łódź, then a part of the Regency Kingdom of Poland, to a Jewish family. During World War II, Silberman survived Nazi concentration camps and eventually settled in Paris. Career One of his first works as a film producer was Jean-Pierre Melville's 1955 film '' Bob the Gambler'', a precursor to the French New Wave movement. Silberman's most notable collaborations were with the surrealist film director Luis Buñuel. The pair, along with screenwriter Jean-Claude Carrière, who Silberman introduced to Buñuel, worked together on a number of films, starting with the 1964 film '' Diary of a Chambermaid''. La Traviata (1983 Film)
''La Traviata'' is a 1982 Italian film written, designed, and directed by Franco Zeffirelli. It is based on the 1853 opera '' La traviata'' with music by Giuseppe Verdi and libretto by Francesco Maria Piave. Soprano Teresa Stratas, tenor Plácido Domingo, and baritone Cornell MacNeil starred in the movie, in addition to singing their roles. The film premiered in Italy in 1982 and went into general release there the following year. It opened in theatres in the U.S. on April 22, 1983. Jörn Donner
Jörn Johan Donner (5 February 1933 – 30 January 2020) was a cinema of Finland, Finnish writer, film director, actor, film producer, producer, politician and founder of Finnish Film Archive. He produced Ingmar Bergman's film ''Fanny and Alexander'', which won four Academy Awards in 1984. Donner also served in the Finnish parliament and the European Parliament, making significant contributions to both cinema and politics. ''Fanny and Alexander'' () is a 1982 Historical drama, period drama film written and directed by Ingmar Bergman. The plot focuses on two siblings and their large family in Uppsala, Sweden during the first decade of the twentieth century. Following the death of the children's father (Allan Edwall), their mother (Ewa Fröling) remarries a prominent bishop (Jan Malmsjö) who becomes abusive towards Alexander for his vivid imagination. Bergman intended ''Fanny and Alexander'' to be his final picture before retiring, and his script is semi-autobiographical. Margaret Ménégoz
Margaret Ménégoz (born Margit Katalin Baranyai; 21 April 1941 – 7 August 2024) was a Hungarian-born German-French film producer. She produced more than 60 films since 1976. She was a member of the jury at the 40th Berlin International Film Festival. She was the longtime manager of the French film company Les Films du Losange, which she sold to Charles Gillibert and Alexis Dantec in 2021. She worked with Michael Haneke on several of his films, including '' Amour'', which was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Picture in 2012. Andrzej Wajda
Andrzej Witold Wajda (; 6 March 1926 – 9 October 2016) was a Polish film and theatre director. Recipient of an Honorary Oscar, the Palme d'Or, as well as Honorary Golden Lion and Honorary Golden Bear Awards, he was a prominent member of the "Polish Film School". He was known especially for his trilogy of war films consisting of ''A Generation'' (1955), ''Kanał'' (1957) and ''Ashes and Diamonds (film), Ashes and Diamonds'' (1958). ''Danton'' () is a 1983 French-language film depicting the last weeks of Georges Danton, one of the leaders of the French Revolution. It is an adaptation of the 1929 play '' The Danton Case'' by Stanisława Przybyszewska. The film stars Gérard Depardieu in the title role, with Wojciech Pszoniak as Maximilien Robespierre, and Patrice Chéreau as Camille Desmoulins.
