Berkeley Station (Atchison, Topeka And Santa Fe Railway)
Berkeley station was the name of an Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway (ATSF) railroad station in Berkeley, California from 1904 to the 1958. It is located on University Avenue between Acton and Chestnut Streets. The station building is today occupied by The Berkeley School. The station opened on May 16, 1904 as the ATSF was extended from its previous terminus in Richmond, California, Richmond to a new end of the line at the Oakland, California, Oakland depot (actually located in Emeryville, California, Emeryville) over the former California and Nevada Railroad. Passenger train operations between Oakland and Richmond ceased after June 15, 1958, but the depot continued in service until about the mid 1960s with Santa Fe bus service connecting to the trains at Richmond. The city of Berkeley acquired the railroad's Right-of-way (property access), right of way within the city limits in 1978, but the Berkeley depot was retained by ATSF. Berkeley Station (Southern Pacific Railroad)
Berkeley Station was the name of the principal railroad station in Berkeley, California from 1878 to 1911. It was located in what is now downtown Berkeley, on Shattuck Avenue between University Avenue and Center Street. The tract is today occupied by Shattuck Square and Berkeley Square. The name continued in use after 1911 although the station was no longer the main rail depot for Berkeley. History Berkeley Station began as the "Berkeley Terminus" of the Central Pacific Railroad's Berkeley Branch Railroad, established in 1876, two years before Berkeley was incorporated. The first train ran to Oakland Pier on August 16. In 1878, the railroad was extended northward several blocks, so the "terminus" was renamed Berkeley Station. In 1885, the Central Pacific's operation of the Berkeley Branch was turned over to its affiliate, the Southern Pacific. Berkeley station is an Amtrak station in Berkeley, California, served by Amtrak California's ''Capitol Corridor'' service. The station is located under the University Avenue overpass just west of 4th Street. It is served directly by AC Transit bus routes 51B and 802; additionally, AC Transit Transbay routes FS, G, and Z stop nearby at 6th Street. History The first Berkeley station along the east shore was located at the Delaware Street railroad crossing, appearing on timetables as West Berkeley to differentiate it from the then-operating downtown station. Berkeley is a Metra commuter railroad station in Berkeley, Illinois, a western suburb of Chicago. It is served by the Union Pacific West Line, and lies from the eastern terminus. Trains go east to Ogilvie Transportation Center in Chicago and as far west as Elburn, Illinois. Travel time to Ogilvie is 29 to 36 minutes, depending on the service. , Berkeley is the 173rd busiest of the 236 non-downtown stations in the Metra system, with an average of 145 weekday boardings. Berkeley railway station served the town of Berkeley in Gloucestershire, England. The station was on the Sharpness Branch Line, part of the Midland Railway (MR), which connected the Bristol and Gloucester Railway main line at Berkeley Road station with the docks at Sharpness. History The Midland Railway's Gloucester & Berkeley New Docks branch, from Berkeley Road station to the docks at Sharpness, was authorised in 1872. On the same day, the Severn Bridge Railway was authorised, which would connect the Berkeley branch to the Severn and Wye Railway and Great Western Railway (GWR) at . Downtown Berkeley station is an underground Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) station in the Downtown Berkeley section of Berkeley, California. It is served by the Orange and Red lines. History Southern Pacific The Central Pacific Railroad opened its Berkeley Branch Railroad to the intersection of Shattuck and University Avenues on August 16, 1876. Early civic leader Francis K. Shattuck donated land for the railroad and its depot, and subsidized the initial construction. Berkeley was the terminus of the line until 1878, when it was extended northwest along Shattuck. The Central Pacific was leased by the Southern Pacific Railroad (SP) in 1885, then transferred to its Northern Railway subsidiary in 1888.
